Does anyone know about Fabletics?

Is it a con? Is it safe?

One of DD's friends 'seems' to have been stung - do they have good customer service? (but she could have been a daft teen....not sure)

Does anyone use them?

Sounds like a wee bit of a scam - do they have to pay a certain amount per month?

ilovepowerhoop · 01/12/2014 21:52

yes they seem to set you up to a recurring payment of £35ish that will come out every month unless you cancel it at the start of the charging period.

ilovepowerhoop · 01/12/2014 21:54

just checked and its £44 a month Shock

ilovepowerhoop · 01/12/2014 21:55

from the website:

Shop Your Outfits - On the 1st of each month, we'll send you outfits selected just for you and your workouts. Complete outfits start at just £44 for VIP Members, a savings of up to 40%.

Buy or Skip - Purchase the outfits you love, or if nothing catches your eye, simply skip the month by the 5th.

Collect a Credit - If you don't make a purchase or skip the month by the 5th, you'll be charged £44 for 1 member credit on the 6th. Each member credit can be redeemed for 1 outfit — use it to shop anytime.

KatyMac · 01/12/2014 21:56

Can they hold a 16yo to that charge?

ilovepowerhoop · 01/12/2014 21:57

You may cancel your Fabletics VIP Membership at any time. There is no cancellation fee. Please contact Fabletics Member Services on 0800 161 5500, Mon-Fri 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM or send us a letter to JustFab UK Ltd., 8-10 Dryden Street, London, WC2E 9NA, to cancel your VIP Membership. If you would like to continue receiving selections, simply skip the month by clicking "Skip the Month" in your Looks between the 1st and the 5th to avoid being charged.

ilovepowerhoop · 01/12/2014 21:59

their T&C's say they have to be 18 years old (did she put in a fictitious date of birth?)

By placing an order through our Site or using the Fabletics VIP Membership Programme, you warrant that:

(a) you are legally capable of entering into binding contracts;
(b) you are at least 18 years old; and
(c) you are the authorised user of the credit or debit card used to access the Services.

KatyMac · 01/12/2014 21:59

She has been charged - panicked & cancelled & they are keeping her £45

OP posts:
FrauHelgaMissMarpleandaChuckle · 01/12/2014 22:00

She's under 18 - she can't be held to it.

KatyMac · 01/12/2014 22:01

So if I phone I should be able to co-ordinate a refund for her - she is scared to tell her parents

OP posts:
KatyMac · 01/12/2014 22:04

So it's a mix - a bit suspect & she shouldn't have lied about her age

I got sucked into this nonsense and am a grown up. Just a scandalous scheme. They do NOT make it clear that you are being trapped into a monthly payment scheme. Astonished that Kate Hudson is lending her name to such rubbish.

movinonup · 07/05/2015 13:22

I'm a 'member'.

I think it is very clear on the website that if you don't 'skip' the month between the 1st and 4th of the month then you will be charged.

I can see how a teen would be lured in by the 50% discount and not bother to read the terms and conditions though :(

Merse · 07/05/2015 14:43

Well - I didn't spot the trick and regard myself as reasonably sussed as a rule. If I had seen that I was committing myself to some sort of membership I wouldn't have touched them with a bargepole. I had a quick Google and came across loads of livid posts from others in the same position as me so seems clear to me that they are deliberately being misleading...

LucyInTheSkyWithDonuts · 07/05/2015 14:54

I'm a member, it's not a scam you just have to actually read what you are signing up to! The clothes are good quality and value and some of the nicest fitness clothes around. You just have to press a button on the website once a month if you don't want to buy anything, not that difficult!

Merse · 07/05/2015 14:58

Agree the clothes are nice. But I didn't think it was clear at all. In theory we should all read all terms and conditions, but in reality no one has time to go through endless pages of stuff - and they know it…. Bet pretty much no one reads every page of T&Cs for bank accounts, for instance!

Also, when I did first order something - they charged me - promised for weeks it was coming and then when I chased for about the 5th time said, oh, turns out they are out of stock. Thought was handled incredibly badly.

Shame as I agree with you - clothes are great!

Rudawakening · 07/05/2015 15:03

I signed up, got an outfit for half price then cancelled. although it wasn't until after I'd signed up I realised what it was. The clothes are lovely and I would buy again.

Merse · 07/05/2015 15:07

Glad I'm not the only one who didn't realised what they'd signed up to! I just thought it was a special offer for first purchase.

tethersend · 07/05/2015 16:50

Of COURSE it's a scam.

Whilst it's simple enough to 'press a button and skip a month', the system only exists because a sizeable number of customers will forget/didn't realise; otherwise what would be the advantage to the company of having 'membership' at all? They know exactly what they're doing, and enough people are unclear about the set up to make it profitable; it's in their interests to have difficult to fathom instructions.

Merse · 07/05/2015 17:36

Those were my thoughts. I genuinely thought it was just a special offer for first order and being a member would result in getting points for every purchase (like a Boots loyalty card). And as you say tether even if you DO understand what you are committing to - the chances of remembering each month without fail are slim to non-existent. Customer services were a joke too.

Gingefringe · 08/07/2017 11:16

My 20 year old daughter has also been 'stung' after buying a £10 pair of leggings on sale a few weeks ago (they were crap and developed a hole shortly afterwards by the way).

She has just had £44 take out of her Paypal account today - We're trying to claim this back from Paypal and cancelling the membership to this scandalous firm.
