What should a 10.5month old wear to her baptism?

Really, really late getting her baptised

The gown that Lottie wore, that D wore, that all his cousins wore, that his mum and all her cousins wore, and all the grandparents etc etc, is now too small for DD2

Don't really want to spend £100 on a dress she'll wear once. Did consider it as she could use it for her DC but a) she might not want to baptise her DC and b) if she does want to chances are she'll get it done a lot sooner so the dress I'd buy for her would be too big.

I have a cream and v pretty net dress and little cream Dior cardi to change her into for the party after but would quite like her to have the classic gown or the church part, but without spending a fortune. Everything I've seen is for teeny tiny bubs and she'll be 10.5 months.

Any ideas?

My neice (and goddaughter) was baptised on her first birthday. She wore a white dress from Monsoon. She was lovely

I think the traditional gown would be too long and cumbersome for an older baby, tbh.

SCARErenity · 09/10/2006 10:51

It's pretty near impossible to find something for that age that isn't hugely expensive ime. DH is G.Orthodox, and they tend to baptise later than CofE etc - DD was 10 months when she had hers. I found a few sites that did absolutely exquisite traditional gowns but the prices were In the end we got her a bridesmaids dress from M&S which she looked lovely in

have you tried ebay?

I got Rebecca a 6-9 months traditional gown bnwt made by next - £12! It is gorgeous and has been put away.

Jessica's dress wouldnt have touched Rebecca even if i wanted it to - Rebecca is FAR too chunky

Actually, one of the traditions is that the child being baptised is given three complete outfits by the godparents (to wear on the three days following the baptism I think). DD was given a beautiful white Monsoon dress -linen with satin trim and embroidered butterflys on the bodice and skirt. Unfortunatly it was too small (6-12mths - DD was wearing 12-18 at the time) otherwise I considered putting her in that rather than the dress I bought. I don't want to get rid of it, but I'm happy to lend it if you can't find anything? (It's sleeveless though)

Just because I'm a sad old bag

DDs dress

What a great picture SCARErenity She's gorgeus and the dress is beautiful. Thanks for the offer sweet, I'm sure I'll find smething though and would worry that she's stain it, but I appreciate your offer.

ledodgywizardrobespierre - had no idea Next would do dresses like that! It's only £24.99, that's a bit more like it!

E-bay & Monsoon also good places to start searching.

Thank you

I have a monsoon 6-12months dress that we bought for dd2's Baptism just incase the gown we had used for dd1 didn't fit ,in the end it did and she wore the monsoon dress for the party.
You are welcome to borrow that

ThomBat · 09/10/2006 12:03

So kind Pelvic but I'd be paranoid that she'd do something to stain it.
That girl can have an explosive back side - ohhh no, I was going to say - could you imagine, but don't go there. Just best we don't borrow anything, but a very very big thanks for the offer.

We got a Next one for DD's batism. It was lovely - still have it but it is a small one. We got a matching hat too. Was great value and perfect for what we wanted - simple but pretty.

S'OK

Ebay is a good idea. I didn't tell MIL, but the dress DD wore (the one in the picture) was off of Ebay - £11, and it came with a hat (which she wouldn't wear) and nappy covering knickers.
