Have you put away all your summer clothes yet?

I am trying to sort out my wardrobe, as it is such a mess of clothes, & I am reluctant to put away my summer clothes, just incase a nice day may return!
Have you now put away your summer clothes to make way for your winter ones?

Did the last packing summer stuff away today as it was so obviously autumn. I think it is weird but summer clothes start to look totally wrong after September, unless you are on holiday abroad of course. Isn't there some saying about not wearing linen if there's an r in the month? or is that oysters. You don't have to jump straight into big jumpers - autumn clothes can still be short sleeved and light, but I find that summer colours just don't work, it must be something to do with the intensity of the sunlight even when it is shining. So whereas I might wear lime green in summer I will wear more olive or khaki shades in autumn and winter.

Pack them away and stop kidding yourself!!!

schneeblysteinsmonster · 06/10/2006 23:00

I don't have a summer and winter wardrobe I just wear more layers in winter!

Blossomhill · 06/10/2006 23:01

I am in semi packed away mode.

Vests, shorts, skirts etc have gone

Still have t-shirts though as fine under a cardigan.

Cannot believe how much my 2 have grown this year!

trinity2 · 06/10/2006 23:01

Yes, I can't wait to put away my summer cloths, I much prefer my winter wardobe.

MrsSpoon · 06/10/2006 23:02

We still have to go our summer hols and may pack away summer clothes after this. I have never packed away summer clothes in my life before, DH and I share a tiny wardrobe and I have never had enough clothes to pack stuff away but started to notice my side has gotten a little full lately.

hatwoman · 06/10/2006 23:04

no i've just started wearing it with tights and boots instead of flip flops

Blossomhill · 06/10/2006 23:04

mrs spoon ~ really? I have a whole wardrobe to myself and it is crammed full. crammed full of summer, then I have bags and bags of winter (I do like clothes shopping

MrsSpoon · 06/10/2006 23:14

DH and I have a normal sized wardrobe, it is maybe about 1.5 metres wide and I have exactly half of it as it has a thing in the middle of the rail. In addition to that I have three drawers of a chest of drawers.

Time to get the violins out, until about two years ago we had very little money for clothes and at one point absolutely no money for clothes (you should have seen my wardrobe then ), a couple of years ago I was granted £50 a month to spend on clothes and that has gone up to about £100 now (which is fab) and I am loving spending it.

Blossomhill · 06/10/2006 23:15

I only shop at Primark though. Can't afford anything else

MrsSpoon · 06/10/2006 23:19

but on a positive note you must be good at shopping!

I have far too expensive tastes for my own good but we are getting a Primark here soon and I will keep going in as I believe there are some fantastic bargains to be had if you know what you are looking for and you are quick off the mark.

MrsSpoon · 06/10/2006 23:21

Actually when DS1 was born I only had one pair of trousers. He was a really sicky baby too so they needed washing every day. I used to wait until bed time then take the trousers off put them through a quick wash and then hang them on the radiator to dry overnight.

Blossomhill · 06/10/2006 23:23

Aww Mrs Spoon I had 1 tracksuit that literally welded on to me. When ds was born in 1998 we had nothing, no money at all.

Flamebat · 06/10/2006 23:24

schneebly - me too!

MrsSpoon · 06/10/2006 23:25

Blossomhill . Those were they days though!

Pinkchampagne · 07/10/2006 08:04

Ok, you have convinced me! I shall pack them away for the winter & accept that summer has gone!
I am like you, Blossomhill, I have loads of clothes & need to pack away winter clothes in the summer & vise versa,
We share a wardrobe too, but I have the majority of the wardrobe space!
I have my summer clothes in a little pile on the bed atm, as I was thinking it was maybe time for them to go away until next year, but part of me was reluctant.

Have reluctantly abandonned my flip flops 2 days ago ...am now wearing trousers under my summer skirts!

Agree with merrygoround re colours though

I packed up dd's lovely summer dresses yesterday...and got out the yummy winter stuff. Ain't having different seasons great?

Pinkchampagne · 07/10/2006 08:13

Yes, tonight I have totally cleared out my wardrobe. I've moved all summer clothes to wardrobe in office/guest room and I've put loads of stuff I don't want in a big bag for 'bag 2 school'.

Sorted out all my shoes so only have out the ones I'll be wearing in the winter. Sectioned off the clothing into shirts, jumpers, going out tops, day tops etc....

Very therapeutic!

Philomena · 07/10/2006 21:37

I'd never done this before, but when 20 weeks pregnant this year I packed away most of my normal clothes to allow space for maternity clothes and clothes that still fit.

I packed the smaller clothes away in storage boxes under the bed, and I must admit I'm now converted to packing clothes away when I won't need them for a while.

I'm looking forward to unpacking my pre-pregnancy wardrobe - it'll be like having a brand new wardrobe after nine months away from them!

Pinkchampagne · 08/10/2006 13:45

Very organised, GDS!!
I started putting bits into the bag 2 school bag, & then I forgot to take the blimmin bag to school with me on the day it was meant to be in!!

swedishmum · 08/10/2006 21:34

I find it really sad sorting no. 4's clothes - she's only 2 and her lovely summer stuff won't fit next year. Maybe that's why I'm keeping so many dresses out to wear over jeans....

Pinkchampagne · 08/10/2006 22:06

Good idea, swedishmum! I have boys so the summer bits really cannot be adapted!
