Looking Old - Foundation Ageing Me

WingsofaDragonfly · 09/11/2014 14:18

Just that really, whatever foundation I use (Le Teint Touche Eclet, Clarins, Clinique, Double Wear etc), all look terrible on me, settling into fine lines or disappearing on my nose and chin, and also seeming to accentuate my eye bags.. I'm 40 and feel hideous, is it time to give up trying to look nice, or can someone please advise me on the holy frail of foundation for this time of life.

P.S Please be kind I'm a long time lurker first time poster

Tell us your tricks Katy...

BarryTheHatchet · 10/11/2014 18:20

Just bought some Nars tinted moisturiser today, didn't realise I also need tricks and tips.

make up IS ageing. A fact they try to stop you noticing.

I'm 10 years older than you, a bit wrinkled in places; that's life. No foundation will change it. A smile does.

Awww special...
A smile and forgetting to put my contacts in before braving the mirror does wonders for me.

Use light reflecting foundation. I've just run out of a great one in a pump by No7 - pretty reasonable.

Agree with PP r Clinique's city block stuff - that is really good.

Do you definitely need foundation? Avon used to do really good moisturisers which made my skin glow and I'd use a tiny hit of concealer.

WingsofaDragonfly · 10/11/2014 20:00

Hi lots for me to go on here thank you, I wore No7 BB cream today just on my t- zone tone, and I think I looked slightly better. I need to get used to the fact that I can't put foundation under my eyes anymore, as it cakes (I know your not supposed to).. And yes my diet has been pants. I'm not wrinkled, just have lines under my eyes and puffiness.. No spots, just looking a bit (lot) bleughh. Think i need to change the way I wear makeup and get a makeover done for the slightly more mature women;).. I have some money to spend so also thinking of going back to Eve Lom cleanser and eye cream, it always worked for me. I had tried to save some money by switching to almond oil and Olay facial wash for double cleansing.

The main thing for me was using a little concealer around the corners of my nose and around my mouth. And getting the perfect blusher for me. really it was an expert getting straight to what was right for me and installing a big dose of confidence along the way. She was so lovely, and imparted loads of common sense, just about how of course everyone ages but you can still look fabulous etc etc. I spent a small fortune, even though there was no pressure, and have stopped wanting botox ;)

Notbythehaironmychinnychinchin · 10/11/2014 20:37

Oh yes blusher! Rimmel do a brilliant cream one in a tube that it fantastic - I'm sure it was only £4 and it's lasted ages. Gives a proper blush look.

WingsofaDragonfly · 10/11/2014 20:57

Katy which beauty counter did you go to? Sounds like just what I need, corners of my nose are an area that bother me and no amount of concealer/foundation takes the redness away.

I was given a Clinique CC cream recently.
I have olive sallow skin.
It makes me look grey!
For myself I like to use Liz Earle tinted moisturiser in beach.
I'm early forties and find it makes me look healthy.

It was a spacenk event when they had their pro team visiting. Had to book and pay 15 but this was redeemable against purchases.

yazzy85 · 12/11/2014 12:14

I recently bought Origins Vitazing tinted moisturiser and its fab, replaces foundation for a more youthful glowy look. Perhaps you can try it out instead of a thicker foundation?

BarryTheHatchet · 12/11/2014 12:14

I was nervous about the Vitazing stuff, doesn't it only come in one colour?

yazzy85 · 12/11/2014 13:41

Yes its one shade, I wear nc25 in mac and it gives me a perfect healthy glow. I wouldn't advise it for very fair skin below nc20 in mac. It blends in very easily though and is quite sheer colour so it doesn't leave a foundation line.

yazzy85 · 12/11/2014 13:42

If you can get to one of the Origins countera maybe a good idea to try it on first.
