Pyjamas for children that don't go hard in the wash?

Every year I buy the 2 pack ones from Boden and they seem to go hard in the wash.

M&S don't seem to be very good quality. Any ideas?

Perhaps it's your washing powder OP.

I would recommend (only 100% cotton):

Hatley
Disneystore
Mothercare
Boots
Next (again make sure they are cotton not poly mix)

I would not recommend:

white company - lovely and soft, but probably only look nice / last a month.
John Lewis - soft, but lose their shape and shrink.

We use method washing liquid with a tiny amount of comfort pure conditioner.

H&M pyjamas are lovely and soft even after lots of washing. Same with the Next snuggle fit ones.

Tbh I haven't really ever hard any of DS's pyjamas go hard after washing so maybe it is how you're washing them rather than the pyjamas themselves?

We are big fans of the flannelette Primark ones. They last and last and wash beautifully. One of mine is (still) a regular bed wetter and so they get washed a lot!

applemac · 09/11/2014 01:30

Thanks for the suggestions. We do live in a hard water area so perhaps that is part of the problem. I use

Persil & Lenor fabric softener or
Bold 2 in 1

It may be soap/detergent residue. Try adding washing soda crystals. They help the soap dissolve so it rinses out better, and you need less.

CuttedUpPear · 09/11/2014 02:22

My Primark flannel ones went hard so I've just chucked them out.

I've got my new Boden ones on for the first time tonight but they seem to be a strange shape or I amConfused

WanderingTrolley1 · 09/11/2014 02:38

I didn't find White Company nightwear much cop.

John Lewis, Sainsbury's and Gap much better!

My DCs have had Boden pjs for years & never had a problem. Ditto John Lewis. We live in a hard water area too. We use Fairy powder & Fairy fabric conditioner.

DarylDixonsDarlin · 09/11/2014 10:24

Just sainsburys or boots ones here, 100% cotton jersey. I find cheaper flannelette ones don't have enough stretch for children, and I cannot stomach paying more than £6 a pair for children's pjs! Always soft. If they're not very dirty try non bio washing, liquid will leave them softer than powder I expect.

H&M. They're a bit thin but stay fairly well in shape and are lovely and smooth. I live in a hard water area, I use Ariel, and no fabric conditioner. I line dry, I don't use the tumble dryer a whole lot. I do iron them. I iron nearly everything,Blush, I love ironed clothes and bed linen. And I do realise I'm a bit unusual, but I quite like ironing. Hate housework. The rest of the house is could be crumbling, but my clothes are perfect Grin!!

There are some specialist sleepwear sites, And So To Dream and The Bright Company are good for smaller children.

carrie74 · 09/11/2014 18:18

White Company (in sales)
Gap (but only the young ones that come in a packet, I was so sad when my children grew out of them)
Sainsburys (but these can be hit and miss: some have worn brilliantly, others have had seams that have twisted)

Hated Boden ones: shrunk and unpicked at seams.

LightastheBreeze · 09/11/2014 18:23

Do you line or tumble dry. Tumble drying makes them softer if they are cotton. Like towels when they are tumble dried
