Autumn and winter wardrobe question [nosey]

Can I be nosey , do you all buy loads of new stuff for each season. Having looked at the prices of some of the boots and coats around, I am , so how much do you all budget for your winter gear.

I generally buy a few bits as I go along. A new coat and a new pair of boots are a definite. But other stuff I have a fairly 'seasonless' wardrobe so only tend to buy a few extra tops and stuff. I'd say I spend about £200 - £250 on new bits and bobs for A/W.

Summer is much cheaper to buy for.

Gobbledispook · 03/10/2006 13:20

Same as NDP really.

Some of the stuff I'll be wearing this A/W are things from last year because they are not 'high fashion' (e.g. short dark denim and cord skirt to wear with tights and knee highs, jeans, fitted v-neck jumpers, scarves, some of my boots)

I will be buying a new coat (made do with a puffa jacket last year so really want a nice coat this year), a pair of black knee high boots for every day (only have heeled evening ones or pull on suede ones that are no good for school run), probably a sweater dress or two as they are 'in' and I quite like them, a couple of warm jumpers for school run.

Like NDP, I'll probably end up spending £250 on new stuff, maybe a little more depending on cost of boots and coat.

am getting new boots and coat and jumpers

probably skirts and black trousers for work

have tons of bags already

new scarf, gloves and hat

cheapy cheap cheap though, not spending a lot

Flamebat · 04/10/2006 10:33

Nothing. I have no money to spend on new stuff as much as I desperately need it.

My winter coat is falling to bits, but if I get a new one, I want a decent one, and one that is a "classic" that will stand the test of a few more years of skintness... alas my bank balance doesn't want me to have said coat

I'd love new boots too, but the same situation.

My only new thing will probably be some jeans - and only because Psycho owes me money, and I have lost so much weight that mine are falling off me.

I have new boots
new ballet pumps

...and new maternity clothes.

Have a lovely coat that I bought a couple of years ago and have just had it repaired so will be wearing that again (unbuttoned).

ParanoidAndroid · 04/10/2006 10:53

Poor as church mice so no new clothes here! But I am quite happy that I'm not succumbing to social pressure to wear the latest look

Flamebat, try charity shops: CRUK, Oxfam, BHF in "nice" parts of town, you'd be amazed what fab winter coats people throw out. It is a good time to look now, as all winter stock donated in the summer is stored and is now starting to be put out. You may find a very good name for 10% of the price

Flamebat · 04/10/2006 10:56

Will do that!!!

I do like buying fashions but tend to be fairly frugal and get a lot for my money. Maybe I look cheapy, I don't know.

So far I have got:
Long, straight skirt for work (not particularly fashionable so should do a few years) - Next sale £3
Ballet pumps - DPs £15
Jumper dress - Ebay £11 (inc post)
Longer jumper - Asda sale £8
Belts - Matalan £2
Long jumper but smart so OK for work - Matalan £12
Tank top type thing - Matalan £12
Jersey wrap dress - H&M £20
Skinny grey jeans - Asda £16

So that is a total of £102. I would like a basic, brown long sleeve top for layering under things but should be able to pick that up for not much. Also would like a casual winter coat. I got a smart coat last winter that will do fine but need something more practical. I don't want something that is only waist length and the hip length stuff all seems a bit sack-like. I may ask for this for Christmas from my Mum. Would also like another pair of shoes - not sure whether to go for flats or heels. And will probably buy a top or outfit for going out nearer Christmas.

I may also buy boots in the sales.
