Ways that you have broken out of your comfort zone style and beauty?

I normally wear natural lip colours however I purchased a MUA red lipstick yesterday and am proudly wearing it today. I don't know if it's the right red for me etc and I am not too bothered by that.

So how are you breaking out of your comfort zone?

i bought a red lipstick recently too but haven't got around to wearing apart from the day i bought it and tested it out lol..never feel brave enough

i did do nude lips recently which was another first (ok i don't generally do lipstick!)

since losing weight after ds I've broken out of my comfort zone and started wearing heels/wedges again. Im a comfort girl and lived in boots and sandals and flats and felt like I needed to enjoy my 30s before it passed me by!

A tone else? I bought another red lippy today

I've been going to the expensive beauty counters in House of Fraser and asking to try things and get samples. Previously I felt far too intimidated by them.

Black nail varnish - used to think it was really extreme (child of the 80s) but now wear it regularly (usually one with a little glitter or pearl in it to tone it down slightly).

Flat shoes - I have never been a regular high heel wearer but used to wear them for special occasions, they seemed obligatory somehow, as did mid heels for work, despite all the discomfort and pain. Not any more, comfort first, and I now feel confident to wear flats with any outfit and have a pair for every occasion. I've still got a few pairs of heels (they are too beautiful to throw away!) but I will never again wear them just because it's the done thing.

Like you I normally wear nude lip colours, but have been wearing Mac Neon Orange to work recently and had lots of compliments Smile

No lippy here but I had my hair cropped after having a failsafe bob for years (but it spent 99% of it's life in a ponytail)

I recently bought some high heeled ankle boots. I used to wear heels, but with no dress code at work and a dog, I found myself going for flats and trainers - they are just more comfortable and easier to walk in. But it's nice to have different options.

For makeup, it'll have to be wearing nude gloss. I usually wear bright pink tones, red or berry lipsticks and very rarely with a glossy finish.

I am trying very hard to wear more colour.

Lottapianos · 29/10/2014 12:40

WhoKnows - totally with you on the flat shoes. I now do not own a single pair of heels and my feet thank me for it every day!

With red or other bright coloured lipsticks, just do it. Honestly. You will have a couple of days of getting a shock every time you look in the mirror then you will not just get used to it, but start to love it. I am also a former nude-lips devotee but got into red lipstick a couple of years ago and I love it now. And like others, I get loads of compliments from other women, which is lovely

More colour. Dresses & skirts not jeans. Got a trusted friend to go shopping with me and be honest, and push me to try different things. I try and wear something I love everyday - trying not to just throw something on. Accessories - I wear something every day, either necklace or bangles or scarf. Basic make up every day - eyeliner, mascara, lipstick: takes less than three minutes but makes a huge difference to how I feel and look. I've completely revamped what I wear and how I wear it in the past three months. Still feel uncomfortable on occasions but it's less and less!

BlueEyedWonder · 29/10/2014 13:23

Going grey gracefully: I have naturally dark hair with lots of greys. Am late 30s and was using a home colour every few weeks. Hated it. I now just have a half head of blondish highlights. Not to cover all the greys, just blend them. I actually mind the greys far less now!
The red lip: like other posters, I decided to give this a go. And not just for nights out but to work too. Clinique two ton tomato is my new best friend!
Wearing what I love: I only buy what I really love, not what I think I should have in my wardrobe. If I want to wear a jumper or flats to an occasion, I do instead of feeling I must be in a dress and heels.

WhoKnowsWhereTheSlimeGoes · 29/10/2014 14:44

I've tried red lipsticks many times but just can't get past the shocked look in the mirror stage. Possibly because absolutely no one I see in my daily life wears it, the other women where I work wear minimal or no make-up as do most of the school run mums. I also worry about keeping it topped up during the day, although I put some on most mornings (nude or gloss) I virtually never re-apply and don't want to have to start checking every time I've had a drink, part of me is very resistant to anything remotely high maintenance beauty-wise.

WhoKnowsWhereTheSlimeGoes · 29/10/2014 14:48

I mean I don't mind spending a bit of time getting ready in the mornings, but I don't want to give it another thought till bed-time after that. I'm in a bit of a rut clothes-wise for the same reason, I live in jeans and leggings because I can do anything in them, whereas if I wear skirts and dresses they immediately start to restrict my movements, similarly with scarves, they make me too hot, irritate my neck, constantly need re-adjusting etc.
