re-waxing a jacket

So I've watched a couple of videos on YouTube and it all seems very easy, but just wondering if anyone had any tips/advice from having done it themselves?

Egg you are not alone. I have just not done it yet! I haven't seen any YouTube videos. I just know when the time comes I will be off to the scout/hiking shop to buy some spray! Nervous about doing it so I envisage my coat walking itself to the washing machine or starting to talk to me because it will be so dirty before I do it!

Apparently you shouldn't wash them, a wipe clean with a cotton cloth and COLD water on the vids.
I'm a bit nervous tbh!

Years ago, we re-waxed an ancient Barbour. Melted the wax on a warm Aga (but not directly on a ring) and applied with fingers. We overdid it in retrospect as it ended up looking like leather, but it was very waterproof and went on for another 10 years. DH washed it with a pressure washer first, as it had been in the back of a Land Rover in a desert for about four years, but I don't think that's how Barbour would have done it.

It's simple enough, just follow the instructions and finish off using a hair dryer as it makes the wax sink into the fabric and doesn't leave it looking greasy.

I've done it several times with my Barbour jacket and my dad has done his many times too - usually once or twice a year depending on the need for it. It does take a while to do, but it is worth it.

Barbour does offer to re-proof the jackets for a fee.

Thanks for the hairdryer tip Carpaccio; will add that one to the housekeeping notes!
