Please help me find the right skin cream

My face hurts from trying to figure out skin creams. Literally. Like right now, I feel like my forehead cheeks are burned. I have dry skin, need a good nourishing cream. The cream that has treated me best in the past was the e45 facial range but that is no longer with us. I've tried oil cleansing but that left me feeling claggy. I have tried Astral, blue Nivea and regular e45 but they don't feel like they really sink in. White Nivea was not rich enough for night time and like the others, made my make up slide off during the day. I used to use olay sensitive night cream for both day and night but that has waned in effectiveness in the last year. DH came back from duty free with a v fancy Elizabeth Ardent set. (millennium something?) but that's left me in my current state. 8 hour cream is fantastic for a mask/pick me up but doesn't agree with me for every day. The only cream that seems to work over a sustained period is a L'occotaine (sp?)jojoba one, but it's insanely expensive. I am really lazy about "systems", mainly because up to now I've had easy, good skin. Any miracle products I'm missing out on?

Olay have a lot of different face creams. Perhaps you could try one. They are really reasonably priced too. Maybe see if there is one for dry sensitive skin like yours sounds :)

Also you could try the simple range?

Avene, they sell it in Boots and you can try before you buy (it´s not expensive). Give it a go. Hope you find one you like.

It's been a swears by on here- cetaphil cleanser followed by moisturiser. I have really sensitive, combination skin and it's perfect. I also like body shop aloe night cream.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 26/10/2014 23:24

Aloe calming cleanser from the body shop with the night cream. Lovely gentle stuff.

prettymel · 27/10/2014 03:01

Try to use organic or natural facial cream on your skin it has no harmful chemicals that may burn your skin. You can also use a virgin coconut oil as a skin moisturizer it has Vitamin that can help to repair your skin.

chanie44 · 27/10/2014 06:09

I was going go say the body shop too. I use the vitamin e range, which is a good all rounder, but there are more targeted ranges.

I find it really gentle and doesn't upset my skin.

I've just swapped using Estée Lauder for a make called Cerave. You buy it from Amazon. They do a hydrating cleanser or a normal one (I use hydrating as I don't have oily skin) and then I use their daily moisturiser which I love as it has SPF of 15.

My skin has never looked better and it is a fraction of the price that Estée Lauder is.

They also do a night cream that I am yet to try as still have some Estée Lauder serum left but that will definitely be my next buy.

It's recommended by dermatologist bods in the US.

mowglik · 27/10/2014 07:25

If you have dry skin id recommend cera di cupra, it's a big seller in Italy and I discovered it when I met an 85 yr old great grandma in tesco who looked like she was 60!

It's kind of Nivea like in texture so quite Rich. I have oily skin but love using this when I'm not going out as it feels so nourishing - may start using this as a night cream!

velourvoyageur · 27/10/2014 07:28

ooh I think Avène is quite expensive! but worth it, it's very calming

I like Aveeno for my face.

Thisishowyoudisappear · 27/10/2014 08:05

Avene is good. Dr Haushka is good although pricy (the rose cream is lovely). I think it helped to rebalance my skin which is no longer as sensitive as it used to be (I use Olay Total Effects now). Dr H has no SPF but at this time of year that might be okay.

When my skin feels dry I sometimes take a couple of tablespoons of olive oil and/or eat an avocado. I think it helps!

margaretofsavoy · 27/10/2014 08:51

The Avene cleanser is £8 for quite a large bottle and lasts a while, so not too bad.

Floisme · 27/10/2014 09:03

I have sensitive skin although not as bad as it used to be. When it flares up, the only stuff that calms it down is oil - not facial oil just ordinary oil. I normally use coconut, almond or wheatgerm.

Iheartautumn · 27/10/2014 09:06

Aveeno! Keeps your skin moisturised for 24h and made from something like oats (Blush) so rarely reacts with skin

FruitBasedDrinkForALady · 27/10/2014 10:05

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'll definitely get on to some of them. I use Simple cleanser but their face creams aren't rich enough for me, ditto body shop or boots vitamin e creams and aveeno. I've heard amazing things about coconut oil but the smell makes me gag, I hate it! Weirdly sleep is a contributing factor, but with 2 small ones, one of whom wakes most nights, that part is harder to control. I'll look into the other products and hopefully find something that suits. Thanks all.

Boots Botanics sensitive skin ones are good and good value.
