Capsulising my wardrobe.

I have drawers and a wardrobe budgeting at the seams but never anything to wear. I don't have a lot if storage space and really need to develop clutter.

My style is casual smart, don't need to be formal for work.

I.like tunic/long tops or dresses with leggings or skinny jeans. Skinny jeans with plain t-shirts.

I either way my converse, birkies or long boots, depending on the weather. Don't really do pumps or anything but do have black ballet pumps and more dressy heels.

I'm thinking of getting rid of anything that isn't part of this wardrobe. I would say it's bot that seasonal either because I just add a cardie or long sleeves in the winter.

Would it be worth going through everything I have and getting rid of anything that doesn't fit my idea of a capsule wardrobe?

Isn't there some rule about going through your wardrobe and throwing out anything you haven't worn in 3 years? I want to say 3 years but it could be 2.

Long enough for all seasons and an occassional events like weddings and seasonal parties.

Yes!

But personally, I'd ditch the leggings and stick to either skinny jeans or dresses/tube skirts with opaques. Much more flattering than leggings imho.

I'm thinking of sorting out a bank of maybe 10 to 12 every day outfits, maybe even photographing them. Is that naff? I'm quite rubbished all this.

I do wear tights with dresses but leggings do feature!

I don't think its naff, I think it's a great idea and one I should do.

I would worry that if you limit your wardrobe too much it might start to feel boring, but definitely getting rid of everything that you just don't actually wear has to be a good idea.

Check out The Vivienne Files blog fantastic resource for wardrobes imho.

Thanks.

I know it might sound boring but I have nice bright dresses and tops and quite like my style. It's not going to set the world on fire but it fits my day to day life. I will keep separate going out things.

I would get rid of anything you've not worn for 2 years or more, or that doesn't make you feel good wearing it.

Then I'd sort through and make sure all the colours suited me and get rid of anything that doesn't.

Obviously get rid of anything that doesn't fit or is beyond repair.

Then I'd do what you've suggested and make up different outfits with the clothes you have left - ideally you'd want to make sure that each item can be worn in 3+ outfits.

You may still feel that you have too much stuff. I've recently had a huge wardrobe cull and reduced it down a lot. I'm doing project 333, where every three month you select 33 items and only wear them for the entire time - I've found it surprisingly easy!

Good luck Smile

Thanks for the replies. Had a good clear out, got rid of anything that I haven't worn in a while and that doesn't make me feel good! More organised as well so I shouldn't need to rake for an outfit. Feels good!

The clothes I find difficult to deal with are the ones that I will fit into if only I lose 2kg and get back to the weight I was a couple of years ago. They hang in my wardrobe, unwearable, but I love them and don't want to accept that I might never lose those 2kg when actually I should be able to do that in a fortnight with a little bit of willpower.

Capsulising is a great idea btw, not naff, and is bound to make you feel better about life in general (well, it would me, anyway).

I think an organised wardrobe is one of life's greatest pleasures!

Itscurtainsforyou · 28/10/2014 12:30

I have large bags in the bottom of my wardrobe containing clothes I can't quite get into but would definitely wear if I lost some weight. That way they're not cluttering the space of the clothes that fit me right now (& don't make me depressed that I need to lose weight every time I open the wardrobe) Smile
