I've recently had my hair cut short and I love it! Or I did until I got home and was checking out the back of my head in the mirror and saw dreaded spots on the top of my back peeping out of my clothes! It was always hidden by my hair before.
I have incredibly sensitive, spot prone skin which I keep ok on my face by using quinoderm each night, but this takes all colour out of my night clothes, towels and sheets so I could never put it on my back. Also I have tried it on my neck in the past and it was too strong for the skin there, made it incredibly red and blotchy.
Can anyone recommend anything to get rid of the dreaded back spots asap? It's going to take an awfully long time to grow my hair otherwise! Grin

Boots do a witch hazel back spray.

Mrsgrumble · 22/10/2014 20:28

Watching.. Mine are dreadful

I used to find the Neutrogena Clear skin body wash very good. Unfortunately they haven't sold it in Boots for years. Sad You can get it on Amazon but it's expensive.

Stop using silicones on your hair- they always give me back spots.

Ohanarama · 22/10/2014 22:02

Thank you all - I am going to call in Boots and buy some spray on the way to work tomorrow to try that for a start!
I'm not sure about silicones but I've always thought that hair products could be the cause of my skin problems! Some products I've used in the past have caused major breakouts!

An issue is that spots aren't my only beauty challenge! I also have dandruff and frizzy hair! I therefore have to get an anti-dandruff shampoo and rich conditioner to minimise frizz, both which won't affect my skin too much! Mission impossible me thinks! Paper bag over head only solution?

I remember my mum telling me that when she was a teenager, her Dr said to her 'you've got spots on your back. Are you suffering from dandruff? They're usually related. If we can sort the dandruff out, the spots will go away'. And true enough, it worked for her.

So you might be on to something?

try head and shoulders shampoo/conditioner (i think the active ingredients help minimise my backne)

Always wash your hair either over the bath or with your head forward in the shower. That way the hair products don't go down your back blocking pores. Also always wash your back last to get rid of any products that may have got on your back. Definitely worth a try.

Try pure virgin coconut oil to reduce frizziness. Use tiny amount on warm, wet hair. (Run container under hot tap to melt it, use on ends and the thinnest skim over the rest.)

Ahh thank you for the tips - I'm going to try them all! Smile

I'm finding Dove shampoo and conditioner is calming my hair frizz and dandruff, but I don't have the back spots to deal with.

I have had this problem for ages and at 46 years old I decided enough was enough. Basically it looked like bad back acne. So I went to the GP fearing I d be told to put up with it. She was sympathetic and prescribed an antibiotic containing cream called DUAC. Had to get DH to apply it nightly for 1month.it stained my nightclothes but I was only wearing old t shirts. It more or less got rid of it.if gentler approaches work then great, for me I know it had to be antibiotics.
