Best way to go from brunette to blonde?

Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiii groomed and stylish people! Grin

I'm useless at this kind of stuff but I'm in need of a re-vamp but I throw myself into the dating scene.

My hair is currently light to medium brown from a box although it's been months since I've put the last one on so it's not all even. I'm wanting to go to a medium blonde colour

I don't have the £££ for the hairdressers and don't like people in my personal space so was wondering what the easiest way to do with home dyes was? My friend said to use one of those xxl extreme blonde colours then the actual dye I want afterwards but will that wreck my hair?

TIA x

Don't do it! I went from really dark brown to blonde in one go, went to a v. expensive hairdresser who suggested slowly highlighting it over months but I insisted. It turned out a weird pinky ginger, then I still had to do months of highlights over highlights to get it to a nice shade. Eventually it became too expensive and time consuming so I tried to dye over it at home with a box dye, I looked ridiculous. A hairdresser eventually dyed the whole thing back to dark brown but the condition was ruined and I didn't have nice hair again until it had all grown out.

If you really want to be blonde, go to a hairdresser and get the highlights done slowly, otherwise honestly, change something else.

don't use the xxl you will go a horrible coopery green/orange colour.

you could setup the hair with a hair B4 let it rest for 2ish weeks and then choose a lightbrown/blonde put that in then go to the hairdresser and just have blonde highlights put in but tell them the all over colour you used so they don't get any reactions

I went to a lovely hairdressers in the southeast that IIRC charged £37, bargain - if that might be useful let me know and I'll message you x

You could get a highlight kit and apply it yourself - very sparingly. Have done this a few times quite successfully. Better still, get a friend to help.

What is your natural hair colour?

If you really are a brunette then don't do it. Your skin tone and eyebrows will look odd and you will look washed out.

Why not have some lighter highlights put in your hair instead. It will look far more natural and flattering than block colour.

If you bleach your hair, slather it in coconut oil first (dry hair) and leave it in for a few hours first! It really protects your hair but still allows bleach to develop. Best use it for a few days before too for as long as possible to help build up the condition of your hair. As well as regularly afterwards. It's best to buy from Holland and Barratt or places that sell Caribbean food. The stuff superdrug sells is full of chemicals. It helped me bleach my hair from red (very hard to get out) to blonde, gradually.

very very slowly and in stages over a good few months, I've told this story a million times on here but I bleached my hair( well the hairdresser did) and it snapped off. Had to crop it. Sad times.
So my advice is

  1. Go to a professional.
  2. Expect it to take a while.
