Please help me spend my birthday money!

As I had a baby earlier this year and am on mat leave several lovely friends and family gave me money or vouchers to spend on myself this birthday.
I am desperate for some new clothes but after spending ages in maternity clothes and then lots of t-shirts for easy breastfeeding access I've lost my way. My birthday was actually 2 months ago but so far I've only managed to buy some nail varnish.
I have no idea what to wear and just feel so overwhelmed I don't buy anything at all.
I am tall and slim, probably size 10-12. I want to buy casual clothes without looking scruffy and perhaps one outfit for an evening out. I already have some nice jeans (skinny) and long boots. I have a hundred pounds in cash plus a £20 Oasis voucher and a £50 John Lewis voucher. I also have a Schuh gift card for about £30 I think which I've actually had since last Xmas!
Oasis was my favourite shop pre-pregnancy although their trousers have never fitted me - too big on the hips.
All suggestions welcomed!

I'm a bit of a leggings and dress fan....and I prefer my dresses to have pockets for the endless c**p I move from room to room!

Debenhams sell a £100 gift card and a personal shopper service (includes a meal/drink/make-over). You could take a chance and indulge, with the thinking that you'll either like what they suggest, or not. And as it's a gift card you may be able to either not buy or return for a gift card.

Wallis also offer a free online personal style advisor service which is pretty spot on for colours and styles.

Have fun shopping!

What a lovely thing for your friends and family to do!

For a casual but not scruffy look, I can totally recommend this sweatshirt from Uniqlo: www.uniqlo.com/uk/store/goods/129852

I've got the dark grey in an XS (I'm an 8 - 10). It looks really fab with skinnies or boyfriend jeans and a scarf, or even with a pencil skirt or patterned trousers. It's really nice in real life and I'm gutted that I need to put mine in the wash now. Must buy another!

The other thing I couldn't do without for casual wear is a denim shirt - how about this one? www.uniqlo.com/uk/store/goods/130711

Re: John Lewis voucher. They stock Warehouse so have a look at this edited selection and see if anything tickles your fancy:

Thank you both for the suggestions. I love the idea of a personal shopper! I also really like warehouse so that's a good suggestion for me. As the weather is so vile today seems like a good day to go shopping too!

I'm exactly the same as you baby 4 weeks old and just had my birthday with lots if money and vouchers!

I'm 5'6 and size 8-10 lucky enough to be able to get into most my ore pregnancy clothes, sometimes with a little hairband or bump cover (like boob tube) over jeans if they are a tad to tight!

I'm also breast feeding but I refuse to dress just because of this, I wear what I like only thing I would avoid if out and about would prob be a dress at this stage as tops and jumpers can easily be pulled up!

I'm not rushing to spend my money and I'm looking around a lot, lots of trips into town seeing what's about!

So far I have brought in next some lovely blue denim leggings, a loose fit fine knit grey jumper with 3/4 length sleeves and has a sort of pleat detail at back it came with a blue patterned scarf but you can use any scarf! It looks lovely with the jeggings and biker boots!

I also brought some lovely black shiny leggings in next, really nice think material that I can dress up or down! I wore these for a night out on Saturday with heels and a sequine detail cropped length top!

I'm currently looking around at poncho and tube skirts and a pair of flat knee high boots in brown and black but this is more tricky as I have very skin calfs!

I'm planning a complete wardrobe clear out!

Also I love Pinterest great for getting ideas

Pointlessfan · 21/10/2014 21:45

Homepride, why didn't I think of Pinterest?! I had a wander around the shops today. I think you are right about not spending it all at once otherwise I'll just buy rubbish for the sake of it. I tried on some tops in and Warehouse and have"shortlisted" a couple. I also bought 2 long sleeve black t shirts from H&M. Not very exciting but I can wear them with lots if existing skirts, carries, jackets etc until I decide what else to get.
I really like the sweatshirt suggested by Frankie and I've never bought from uniqlo so going to have a proper look at the website when I have a bit more time.

That should be Oasis and Warehouse. Not sure what happened there!

I love "research" trips around the shops! Sounds like you're having great fun. Don't forget you can sometimes order online using giftcards, depends on the retailer, and order through a cash back site, or through Boots' Treat Street for extra points.

Pointlessfan · 21/10/2014 21:54

I've never heard of Boots Treat Street! What is it please?

I use Quidco for cashback when buying stuff online. It's brilliant - it's basically free money! I've made over £1200 since I joined about three years ago. Genius!

Pointlessfan · 22/10/2014 08:57

I must try and use it, I don't really get how it works. Something else to research!

OP posts:
frankietwospots · 22/10/2014 14:31

It's really easy! Just sign up and then every time you are about to make an online purchase, remember to go to the Quidco page first, search for the retailer and then it will take you to their website and you shop as normal. Soon it becomes second nature!

Pointlessfan · 22/10/2014 18:50

That sounds really easy, will def do that!

Second the idea of pinterest... When I was in your position I used that and checking out a few blogs... Susie soso, allwornout and wearing it with style... They may have had different budgets (less so susie) but helped me think of outfits...I went shopping with access to pinterest (had stuff shortlisted) and some photos of key existing things in my wardrobe, plus a mental list of the kind of the kind of things I was looking for...

Pointlessfan · 22/10/2014 19:01

I like the idea of taking photos of things in my wardrobe already. I'm terrible for buying things that don't go with anything. I think a full wardrobe clear out might be in order...

Boots' Treat Street works like Topcashback and Quidco, but offers between 1-3 advantage card points for every pound you spend through a shop. Normally 250-500 free points for registering with Treat Street. Very handy for Boots' fans!

Pointlessfan · 23/10/2014 09:11

Thank you, can't believe I didn't know that, I'm always in Boots!
