HOC colour analysis. Worth the money?

WiseKneeHair · 16/10/2014 10:34

I've often seen threads on here about HOC and which season people are.
I've looked into it and to have a colour analysis is £110 for 3.5 hours.
Now, I don't mind paying that if it will help me.
I just wondered what those who have done it think?
Fwiw, I'm mid 40's and sometimes think I dress reasonably well but at other times think WTAF was I thinking wearing that!
So, worth the money or not?

Well, no they don hav to match the swatch exactly. The more experienced you get, the more you don't need the swatch.

I have had colour and style and though I am much fussier I buy tons of clothes! It drives me mad that the dominant 'top' shape in the shops is 'big silky box' because its not my style - but at least I now don't buy them, only to never wear them because they didnlt 'feel right'. Now everything feels right, and like me.

Yes, it was worth it for me. I tried to figure it out myself and got it wrong and I'm obviously not the only one. It has given me more confidence and made shopping much easier.

I don't understand why people who haven't had HOC analysis get so hot under the collar about others choosing to have it done.
You could dye and cut your own hair, paint your own nails, etc but some people choose to spend masses on these things and they are never told that it is a waste of money and they could easily do it themselves.

LakeFlyPie · 16/10/2014 23:42

IMHO HOC colour analysis is well worthwhile and has really helped me to stop randomly buying clothes (usually sale items) which never look quite right; I now understand why.

Don't think I could have worked it out on my own, it took the Consultant a bit of humming and ha-ing to decide. Eventually when she draped me with the orangey salmony colours and then the fuschia pinks it became evident that I'm a jewel winter and look like death in salmon pink tones

Even though I didn't particularly 'click' on a personal level with the Consultant and found her a bit pushy with the cosmetics I would definitely recommend it as a process.
I love analysing people in the street now (silently in my head obviously Grin)

I was going to book in for a style analysis day but think I've managed to work that out for myself with the help some Kibbe websites.

SunshinePanda · 17/10/2014 06:26

Just wanted to add that IMO being confident with your colour makes so much difference. I think people that know for sure, by visiting a reputable consultant, can really focus in on buying only items that make them look their best and save money by having clothes that work well with each other. I think its a lot of money to pay on clothes from a certain pallette if you only rely on a guess, with a bit of help from the internet.

Floisme · 17/10/2014 07:18

I've not had mine done and probably won't because I think I can see which colours suit/don't suit me, although I've no idea about this warm/cool/ autumn/winter business. If I couldn't see it, I'd have it done like a shot. It doesn't seem an unreasonable amount of money to pay for someone's time and expertise.

The only thing I don't understand is when you get people who know what suits them still trying to work out what season they are - I mean what does it matter if you can see it for yourself anyway?

temporaryusername · 17/10/2014 07:59

I have very good colour vision, I can see subtle differences. Also if I do those online tests for hue ordering I get perfect colour vision. I just am not exactly sure how they'd suit me, and I don't have 100s of bits of fabric lying around to find out. I think I know my best colours , but could do better. Trying on a few random items when shopping or ordering, even if I think they suit me, would been I could still be unaware of a shade that would be really good.

I don't want to go for a harmonised look every day or always wear a certain palette. I would just go to get a different perspective and plan to apply it when I want, to whatever extent I want. Hopefully it would give me some great ideas and increased awareness, but I certainly wouldn't be planning to rigidly stick to it or throw out my old things, let alone wear colours I don't feel good in. I'm just not organised enough for all that and some of my clothing choices will always be a bit out there.

I do think that if I go for it, I will go in knowing that no system is perfect on this, and that I might not like or agree with the result. I'd hope to, and a massive majority of people who've written here did feel it was right. I just think it is unrealistic to expect anything will definitely go brilliantly. Is there an Eeyore emoticon? Wink

Well, I thought I would update.
I had my colour analysis this morning and apparently I am an autumn leaf. I really was quite surprised at some of the colours that suited me and wouldn't have guessed them on my own.
It was very enjoyable, but I suspect is going to end up expensive as I now need to do some shopping Grin
So, my next question is, shall I do the style day now?

It works only if the colours make you look the way you like as well as the way they think you look best depending on what that means. I had a mate tell me because of me colouring I should wear autumn greens russets etc which I just never would they make me look too jaunty weather girl.

ChocolateWombat · 25/10/2014 15:37

I think you need to see it not just as about finding out your colours, but as a pleasant day out. People often go with a friend. It's a time of being pampered.....think of it as the equivalent of a day at the spa type thing.

I had mine done and was told I was a Winter. I didn't want to be a Winter, but an autumn. After I thought about it and felt a fit discouraged for a week or two (was wearing wrong colours apparantly) I decided to carry on wearing what I liked.
And I still love autumn colours and buy lots. Although I do have a few winter colours too.

If it's only about the colours themselves, don't bother. If you fancy a nice day put with a friend....can be very pleasant.

Clackety · 25/10/2014 15:42

I left it a good six months before doing the style day just to get comfy with my new colours. Glad you enjoyed it !

Scarletohello · 25/10/2014 16:58

I'm an Autumn too! Did you get a swatch? I found it really helpful to take it out shopping with me at first when I wasn't too sure which shades were right. I now wear colours I would have turned my nose up before ( e.g.olive green), but which actually really suit my skin colouring.

purpleponcho · 25/10/2014 17:47

Not in England anymore, so HoC is out, but are there any good websites which give decent info about this stuff? Medium blue and rose pink look good on me, I'm dark-haired, brown-eyed and my skin colour can best be described as "death not even slightly warmed up"... so... what does it mean?

I'd definitely get this done if this service was offered here.

WiseKneeHair · 25/10/2014 20:47

Thanks Clackety I think I'll give it a while to get used to the new colours, maybe after Christmas.
Scarlet yes, I have. Ive been through my wardrobe and separated the clothes I should wear and those I shouldn't Grin
