Glasses

I have new prescription glasses but have worn nose pad-less ones for years. Went for an Orla Kiely pair and they really suit. But.... I have really red marks either side of my nose and they're getting sore to the point that, I've just gone back to my old glasses.

Have been back to the Opticians 3 times. The woman looks so bored with me and just nudges the pad wire a bit and hands 'em back. I don't know what to do. They were expensive.

Anyone any ideas?

You could try getting a different type of nose pads fitted. I get my glasses in asda as they thin them for free and I'm very short sighted so usually have to pay ridiculous amounts for them to thin lenses. I liked a pair but they didn't sit correctly on my face and I was told they could swap the nose pads over to gel and all sorts of different ones. That may be worth a try?

Izzy, thanks. I'll go back but, I know she's sick of the sight of me! (Pardon the pun)

I've just been back to the opticians with my new ones and they fitted soft pads and relaxed the bit behind the ear. Mine are better but still taking time to get used to as my last ones were really light and almost frameless!

Get them to change the pads. I got Orla Kiely frames earlier this year, after years of wearing pad free frames, and they look great but were hurting, a lot. The optician took one look at my sore nose and fitted much softer silicon pads with no fuss and no cost. Maybe try a different branch if that's possible. They are really helpful in my local branch (South Manchester).

I had similar difficulties with mine and had the pads changed to soft silicone ones. I was told to dab a little face powder on them if needed, and that I would probably need to replace them sooner than the harder type, as they will go milky and not look nice. So far so good.

I wouldn't worry about going back. You paid for something that's currently not wearable. They should help you without any problems. Although I did feel like that in specsavers when I had issues a few years ago!

I'll call in today and ask about silicone pads. Smile

How did you get on Eliza?

Eliza22 · 15/10/2014 16:07

Got the silicon pads and had the arms tweaked. Will see how I go. Apart from the discomfort, I hate the gouge marks either side of my nine. Not good.

Optician said, I may need to come back a few times in order to get the best fit Confused

Hopefully the new pads help with no more visits needed :)

Eliza22 · 15/10/2014 18:41

Thanks Izzy....hope so! I've never had pads before so for sure, they're more "noticeable" and "heavier" somehow. Fingers crossed!

Yeah deffo change the pads, sometimes you need to have them changed a couple of times to find the right fit. Make sure they get them to check they are hugging your head right, it could be alot of the weight is being placed on the bridge.
The dents will go but take a bit of time. Give them a gentle little massage every so often. I have a 'mare of a head, really small and little bridge, it usually takes me a month or so to get the fit just right!

In the meantime rub some Vaseline or whatever you have ( I use eight hour cream) on the red marks. This will help the discomfort.

Eliza22 · 16/10/2014 07:48

Smile. Thanks for that.
