Annual clothes expenditure- how much?

Following on from the 'Do you have a lot of clothes' thread, how much do you spend in a year?
I have to admit I don't have an clue, but if I exclude a winter coat and knee length winter boots ( which I don't buy every year, maybe every 2 years) and could cost £200-£250 each, then I reckon I don't spend more than £1K- £1200 . This includes shoes, possibly a handbag, and undies.

I would have to think about it as I don't have a clue. Does this include sports clothes?

MirandaWest · 13/10/2014 17:14

I probably spend more than I like to think I do. Probably about £800 although I hope it's less.

SofaCanary · 13/10/2014 17:22

I dread to think!

4yoniD · 13/10/2014 17:37

Around £200, maybe £300 on a "bad" year. I probably only buy clothes 2 or 3 times a year. Happy to pay £40-£50 for something I know I will get lots of wear from (jumper, coat etc) but mostly wear the same stuff endlessly or get the odd cheap thing from Primark/charity shop just for variety or try something different.

Bunbaker · 13/10/2014 17:46

I have no idea whatsoever. I don't buy expensive clothes, but don't buy from Primark either.

chanie44 · 13/10/2014 18:11

About £300-£400 a year, including a bit of birthday money. It works out to be about £50 a month.

I can't really afford much more at the moment, but I think I do okay with what I have and I don't make msny wardrobe mistakes, so the money is well spent.

charlietwork · 13/10/2014 18:19

I have a spreadsheet of all my expenditure, and I've spent £1000 on clothes and accessories already this year. Includes all bags, shoes, sports clothes, underwear, socks etc. I'll probably spend about £1200 by the end of the year. Bit more than I've spent in previous years due to a change in clothes size and an increase in income.

Interesting question

Few hundred I guess maybe more

I can never find anything I like in charity shops. Mind you the ones in my nearest town have Primark cast offs.

SofaCanary · 13/10/2014 19:11

What size are you Horace?

Notabar · 13/10/2014 19:16

Doing a quick tot up, I probably spend about £1,000-1500 on autumn/winter/spring clothes and much less (maybe £150-200) on summer stuff.

I buy a new coat, a new bag and a couple of pairs of boots about this time every year, included in that

foxdongle · 13/10/2014 19:21

I kept tabs of mine from:
2 years ago- £1500 ish
last year- £500
this year- £200 + birthday money so far.

I didn't have to cut back, but decided to stop buying mistakes/being wasteful etc.
I'm now much more selective and wear things to death-nothing still with tags here anymore.
Never go to primark, but I do buy from charity shops.
I think £200-£400 will be my future budget.

nomorecrumbs · 13/10/2014 19:35

I spent £921 on "clothing and shoes" in 2013 according to my bank!

That's insane. I spent even more than that on "personal care" and Boots got a hefty chunk, along with my hairdresser.

I've spent a ridiculous amount this year so far on clothes and shoes - just over £2,000, although in refunds it probably totals about £1500.

I'm really not a spendthrift - I go into town about once every 3 weeks to see what's in the shops and might pick up a top, dress or tights - this is what adds up. I do a big online shop for work clothes plus another for holiday clothes about once every 6 months.

mooth · 13/10/2014 19:35

Oh my word, I spend sh**loads.

Oly4 · 13/10/2014 22:56

Oh god, way more than that. About £300 a month. It's my weakness and we can afford it. I buy decent quality.
I do feel guilty through as I have spent many years without the cash we have now and I can't shake the 'skint' feeling!

lornemalvo · 13/10/2014 23:07

I spend about £300 a year on clothes and shoes. I've spent more this year as I have been pregnant almost continuously in recent years and needed to build up a new non maternity wardrobe. It's been around £500 so far this year.

BlameItOnTheBogey · 14/10/2014 00:32

I do one big shop a year for work clothes. I use a personal shopper and spend a lot in one go. But I have to look smart for work and I find this is a good way of getting bang for my buck because I end up with a wardrobe that all works together. It means I don't spend in dribs and drabs throughout the year. One year I go in Spring, then I next go in Autumn so I have clothes for all seasons over a 2 year period.

Fanjango · 14/10/2014 00:50

Zero. I wish I was joking. I go round the charity shops with mum. She pays. Wouldn't be so bad but I'm over 40, not a bloomin teenager Hmm

Terramirabilis · 14/10/2014 05:27

I've never had less to spend on clothes than I do at the moment, unless you go back to when I was still at school. It's because my DH is doing his doctorate and I've just had a baby so I'm supporting all of us. I expect to spend about 650 GBP in the next year, but given that clothes are the only thing I really love to spend money on, I'm not spending much on anything else like meals out, cinema etc. Can't wait to be able to really shop again once DH starts working.

peasandlove · 14/10/2014 05:48

I hate to think. Thousands

Between £500 and £1000 a year, in my head it is only about £300, but up a £1000 is the more realistic amount.

On a S & B thread, I guess that isn't too bad Grin

yummypickledeggs · 14/10/2014 08:43

I could spend a lot more- the income is there. But I just wouldn't wear it all. I don't have the lifestyle. I work from home 80% of the time and we don't have an active social life particularly, so I don't see the point spending loads on something that will hang in the wardrobe until it's dated or moth eaten.
If i was working full time out of the house then I could spend more. But my biggest question around clothes has always been 'Do I need this?' and if I don't, then I tend not to buy.
