How do I not wake up with a rats nest for hair please?

I've often read ladies on here saying they can style their hair and get a good 2, even 3 days before needing to wash/style it again. Please how do you do this?!

If I somehow muster the time to do my hair in a manner I like, the next morning (don't even talk about day 3...) it looks horrific. Tie it up overnight and it's crumpled, unsettled chaos. Leave it down over night and it's matted at the back , squashed body and down right hideous.

Where am I going wrong please? I'm actually considering a perm in my madness, as I've delusions that'll help my hair be a consistent style (it can be curly or straight but both need work to achieve if that makes sense..)

I've never managed to maintain good hair overnight, but I have started wearing a silk nightcap (sexy it is not), which is good at preventing frizz and matting.

When I had a short sleek bob I used to scoop it back into a slumber net at night, that worked quite well.

Do you brush it through just before bed? That really helps.

I have to wash my hair every 2 days, it's awful otherwise.

You could plait your hair (I do two like pippy longstocking) and that stops it getting tangled in the night and makes it easier to deal with in the morning. Maybe rub a little argan oil over it before plaiting too.
Warning: If you're over 13 like I suspect, you may look pretty silly in the plaits. It's an indoor style only!

Yes I would like to know too please. Up until my thirties/before using GHDs, I would be able to wake, shower, brush my hair and it would be straight and smooth. However now, I always need to straighten my hair otherwise it kinks underneath and flicks in different directions and is not smooth after brushing.

Could the GHDs have done this I wonder?

Silk pillowcase. Bought mine on amazon.

Mine looks better after a night's sleep so I tend to wash my hair in the evenings. The freshly blow-dried look doesn't seem to suit me - the natural waves look better the next day

I second a silk pillow case it helps with wrinkles too.

Me too petula. I have shoulder length naturally curly hair so I wash it at night and leave it to dry naturally (except the long fringe which I dry with a hairdryer and brush so it's smooth). Then I pin back the fringe, pull the rest back into a tight ponytail and in the morning it looks pretty good - good shape and not as frizzy as when I dry it all with a hairdryer.

I third a silk pillowcase. John Lewis and Jasmine Silk do them also.

OP - It will largely depend on how long your hair is.

People will have different luck depending on their hair type and how much they move when they are sleeping. A silk pillowcase certainly can't hurt.

No offense intended, but if your hair is getting tangled that easily it sounds like it might be in very bad condition. I'd strongly recommend starting to do some weekly home made hair treatments (warm olive oil, or olive oil mixed with egg is a good one).
