At long last! Looks great too. I hope it goes well for her, I like her a lot

toptrumps1 · 13/10/2014 20:52

Sorry to continue being a little off thread but it was something I've been mulling over myself lately!

Littlemoocow · 13/10/2014 21:12

Yes I'm with you there top trumps, I wondered if I was missing something on wits new website, it all looked very "this season" to me, glad it's not just me who doesn't really but into the forever classics idea

Littlemoocow · 13/10/2014 21:14

"Buy" into I meant, not but

Littlepinkpear · 14/10/2014 08:42

I've had a good look at the site now and agree with Amber - Belinda, DMBL40, AWO etc. cover almost exactly the same things at better price points and with honest reviews too.

santamarianovella · 14/10/2014 12:35

TBH, it doesn't live up to all the hype . posters on S&B are doing this sort of "expertly edited" thing all the time, and I don't see the point of linking clothes from websites like NAP and mytheresa. I check those almost daily, so it doesn't add anything unique. Its basically a website that links to other websites,

I totally agree with littlemoocow and toptrump , classics can look dated with time, cuts, lengths, even fabrics change after awhile, the original idea is still there but with modification, a chanel bag from the 80s doesn't look exactly the same as they do now, it still has all the original characteristics, but the total look has undergone some changes.

RonaldMcDonald · 14/10/2014 13:00

dullsville

hope it goes well for her

WipsGlitter · 14/10/2014 14:07

She's got a lot of bugs in her system. None of the links to 'buy it now' were working when I tried them earlier.

toptrumps1 · 14/10/2014 14:28

I really like her WIT blog, have read it for years, even though her recommendations have become more expensive and less high street as time has gone on, I love her style and she is a rare contrast to all the anodyne mum blogs out there.

Yet, I looked once at this new project yesterday when it launched, flicked through both the small e-zines, and haven't been back. Said as someone who regularly refreshes mumsnet, instagram, twitter, facebook practically every five minutes and will happily waste hours online window shopping when I'm at the computer. I don't really understand what it offers (well I do, but can't really see the USP?)

WipsGlitter · 14/10/2014 14:33

I know, it's like a superblog or something. Most of the bloggers I am aware of do monetise their blogs to a certain extent, but this is just a different way of doing it really but not necessarily better. I wonder what % she gets for purchases made through the links.

Marylou2 · 14/10/2014 14:43

I agree that the basics change subtlety each season but we all know where to buy these things at our individual price point be it NAP, Whistles or Topshop. A page of black and grey sweaters doesn't photograph well and many links don't work. I love WIT and always enjoyed Laura's work at Red.This new project needs to be more slick and add value.

sansucre · 14/10/2014 14:43

It took me ages to figure out how to even access the e-zine and was decidedly underwhelmed when I did.

The site itself is a great idea but doesn't bring anything new to the table. It's also too bland in its look, and the e-zine (if we can call it that) is more than a little influenced in layout and style to Net-a-Porter's The Edit*. It's all fur coat and no knickers. And like so many other posters have said, other bloggers are doing similar and better.

It will be an interesting one to watch to see how/if it evolves. I worry that it will turn into a paid advertorial. Well, I'm not worrying but you know...!

**The Edit is a lovely looking e-zine and I can see why they've modelled their own on it. However, it also has far better content!)

toptrumps1 · 14/10/2014 14:58

Actually, I think Laura has missed her own USP - she is a stylist not a retailer. Ok, she's using her background, knowledge and experience to give us a shopping experience by this "edit" (barf) idea of only 5 pieces of each item, but at the moment the emphasis is more on the buying than the styling advice. The magazine bit which at the moment is only a few pages long is her forte. I do genuinely think she is a really good stylist and has great ideas.

And lets not forget her business partner in this, also a stylist not a retailer.

But anyway, good luck to them both.

Littlemoocow · 14/10/2014 18:28

I agreed top trumps, I would have liked styling ideas more than purchase ideas

Merriboo · 15/10/2014 12:27

Given that Laura disapproves of high street lookalikes (eg the new look copies of the aquazzura Irish dancing style flats that Alex/the frugality got) I'm guessing that the higher end prices will dominate rather than the affordable pieces that would work better for those of us with a more limited budget.
I like the styling inspiration- that's why I like her blog

Ooh how do you know that (about her disapproving) Merriboo?

And yet she "loved" that spotty M&S dress that was "so D&G" if I recall...

Merriboo · 15/10/2014 14:17

Blair IIRC Laura commented on a tweet of Alex's after she found them. Then when Alex did a blog post, she made a point of saying that Laura disapproved.

Merriboo · 15/10/2014 14:31

The tweet was on 16th August- Laura replied "ouch! Always feel a little sad when a great icon is copied so blatantly..."

There were a few thank you tweets from others who got the new look or office ones.
I got the impression Laura was disappointed that her real deals were no longer as exclusive????

lurkingaround · 15/10/2014 14:38

Ooh my! That wasn't such a nice tweet for a colleague/friend to receive! Supportive, not.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 15/10/2014 15:05

Haha sounds about right! She must just be gutted/annoyed she bought the real ones at full price.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/10/2014 17:16

So it's a shop. It's hardly a surprise. Can't say it holds any interest or excitement whatsoever for me tbh.

I don't look at her site anymore - she's always either trying to flog crap or pushing a 'dream' lifestyle where everything is picture perfect, babies don't throw up, stockings don't get laddered etc etc, or is pretending to like clothes from M&S because they are obviously paying her to say so.

I find it all very, very boring.

ZaraW · 15/10/2014 17:31

For an aspirational blog I love Garance Dore she is effortless and has fantastic style. WIT not so much attempting to sell a perfect life and trying to convince us that yes she really does shop at M&S and is not working for them.

burnishedsilver · 15/10/2014 18:05

I like it.
I think it has potential.

thesaurusgirl · 16/10/2014 13:26

There was a blog post from Garance the other day about not believing everything you see on Instagram. Respect her a lot and think she has massive talent.

FWIW, I agree with Burnished, I do think WIT's new site has potential.

Anal Bush from WIBT on the other hand is an airhead personified. WTAAAF.

santamarianovella · 16/10/2014 13:53

thesaurusgirl , what is WIBT ?

And please tell me your post has a typo, I don't want to google anal bush
