Help me dye my three tone hair!

Evening all!

I'm having a crisis of colour at the moment. This summer, I decided to stop dyeing my hair and stripped all the colour out. I ended up with naturally mousy roots and ends, gingery tones and some blonde streaks. I've tried to neutralise the yellowness with Touch of Silver, but this makes it too light for my black eyebrows. I do quite like the coppery tones (been darker reds quite a lot) but I'm not sure they suit me. It looks a little dull at times, which I think is the mouse coming through.

I've always dyed my hair several shades darker (even black, some of which is still bloody there Grin) as I thought it'd balance out my dark eyebrows. However, keeping up with fair roots has been a real pain. My skin is yellowy-pale and I have green or grey eyes.

I want a change of colour so I wondered if you wise people could advise me on which way to go? I've attached a photo to show the damage.

Thanks! Flowers

Well firstly I would say that if the black bits won't shift then cut them off. Are your eyebrows natural?

I think with your skintone I would go with an ash toned brunette. If you have blonde bits you will need to add red in first to stop it going khaki. A semi permanant is fine and then go over it with a cool light/medium brown. Try light first because your hair is likely to be very porous and drink up the darker tones in the dye. If it's not dark enough then it is easier to go over rather than strip too dark a dye out.

Thank you, I was thinking ash toned brunette too but I didn't know how to do it!

My eyebrows are indeed natural - they've always been much darker (and sadly fuller!) than my hair.

Wow you are lucky with the eyebrows.

I have had a good result with Loreal excellence light frosted brown. 6.13. It turns out a medium minky ash brown on me. The straight forward natural light brown is a tad warmer but a good alternative.

This is how I would tackle it-

Go over any dark bits with prelightener to strip them back a couple of tones if you don't want to chop it. This will help to even out the colour. About 15 mins max should do it. It will look very brassy but don't panic. This is necessary as the permanant dyes aren't strong enough to lift black/dark tones out and you will end up with root glow/patchy hair.

Next go over the hair with a semi in a chestnut tone. Country colours highland chestnut is good and inexpensive to layer the hair.

After that use the permanent and it should look natural and evenly toned.

Used a the purple shampoo once a week to help keep it ashy.

Thank you so, so much Mil!

I'll give it a go.
