I want this jumper and i can't have it - alternative ideas needed

saw this in store last week and really loved it - but it is out of stock in my size and more importantly the Grazia code has expired so i can't justify the price.

whistles cashmere cowl

In fact I suspect I would be better off with a jumper that isn't cashmere - as it can be too warm, might well go bobbly, and i have a toddler who will no doubt ensure it is frequently filthy so could do without high maintenance laundry....

Can anyone give a glowing recommendation on a really lovely black jumper that is special enough not to look boring?

I have that jumper from last year and it has not worn well at all. I would not recommend Whistles cashmere, in fact most of Whistles stuff is very overpriced for the quality.

I'd have a look at John Lewis, their cashmere is far superior to Whistles

No idea of the brand but this looks rather lovely:

The moss stitch jumper from Woolovers has a similar line to that Whistles one but without the cowl. You could use a scarf to achieve that look and then have another look when you don't wear one.

It is a lightweight knit, washes without shrinking and doesn't bobble. I have had a lot of cashmere but really rate this jumper from a cut/material perspective. I have the really dark, inky navy but they have them in black this year. It's really warm too.

This is a cardigan but it looks great all fastened up:

They have something similar in La Redoute [[http://www.laredoute.co.uk/cropped-100-cashmere-jumper-with-cowl-neck/prod-324471819-221814.aspx here].

Not as long but still really nice, I was very impressed when I got mine, and I'm not usually impressed with stuff from there tbh. They have 1/2 price on knitwear I think this weekend

Wow thanks for all these ideas - am now liking several of these !
Milkthistle that's disappointing for you but means I am not in the least tempted to pay full price for that one now. Would expect a long life for that price.

greengarden I like all of your offerings - love the massimo dutti and the white stuff cardigan but the colours aren't me.

Also not ordered from Woolovers before but think I might try a few staples from there.

Ooh love the bench sweatshirt too!

Hmm might end up with multiple purchases after this thread!

I didn't realise people spent this much money on cardigans and sweaters Shock but then again I grumbled at spending £25 in peacocks on a jumper last week hehe I'm a charity shop fiend Smile

Have you looked at uniqlo? Their extra fine merino is lovely, so soft and thin yet warm. It all has the wool mark too so you can be sure of the quality. They have a good range of cashmere too with some of their cashmere blends as little as £30 (though pure cashmere is more). I've washed all my merino ones and my cashmere blend in the washing machine on wool cycle too several times and it is good as new, no bobbling, no shrinking. Brilliant stuff. Sizing is true to size I reckon and returns are good and fuss free.
