where to find a good "serious" suit?

Shifting jobs so that I will be meeting at least once a month with banker types. I need a nice suit that says I am a serious type of person. I am short (5ft 1in) and a size 10, 32C on top but very straight up and down - thick-ish waist and a bit of a mummy tummy but no hips to speak off. Have tried one on in Jigsaw and although trousers were fine, jacket was horrible. Zara also no good, jackets don't look well cut enough. Willing to spend a fair amount! Where do all you city types shop?

Am not city type, and never have to wear one myself but I believe MaxMara/Sportmax is where you want to go.

Or have you tried Hobbs? (too girly?)

Jaeger -
jaeger
Or try net - a - porter
net a porter

Oooh I miss those days !!

Or maybe just go in to Debenhams, John Lewis or House of Fraser as there's usually a big selection of various designers/makes

M and S do good suits for Men (italian cut etc) Maybe they do the same for women. then you can dress it with Gucci or Armani!!

Other than that.

You say Jigsaw no good/ I bought my last serious suit from there.

Hennes?
Nicoe Fahri/
Selfridges?

ha budget not really stretching to Gucci or Armani! Hobbs I find cut for more curvy types than me - if they fit in the waist too big in the hips. Jaeger in the Village so I can look there...

What about Reiss? They normally have a few suits each season and they often have shorter jackets. French Connection can sometimes be good.
I usually find something in Jigsaw but if I had a big budget for something really special then I would love something from Jaeger.
Austin Reed may be worth a try - definitely serious but can sometimes be a bit frumpy.

used to get mine from jigsaw - lovely fabrics. did they not have a few diff shapes of jecket for you to try?? always used to haev.

No Jigsaw suit was cut with too much of a curve - too big up top, and if it fitted up top too tight in the waist. Shame cos I do fit Jigsaw trousers quite well. French Connection jackets tend to be too long in the body as I'm so short! Maybe I'll try Selfridges - have vague memory of Marella being OK for suits.

I saw the jigsaw suit and hte coat was great but the skirt was a bit frumpy.

Wallis had some stuff

Which Jigsaw suit did you try? I tried a stripey grey one and a plain grey one, but they are all very wide in the bust. Reiss was just plain weird in terms of fit. Couldn't see any petite in M&S Autograph either - is this in store?

In the end, I went to LK Bennett (just up the road from me so very low effort) and bought a grey wool suit with curvy jacket and trousers - 20% discount from Red magazine - so not too bad in the end. Plus they will shorten the sleeves/take up the trousers. Good tip Anniemac - thanks!
