Bra intervention in London

MuddyWellyNelly · 11/10/2014 17:46

Find myself with a few days in London. Currently wearing a 32A (I think) bra that is actually a fairly good fit but it's the only one I have that works and is a European make. Anything else is generally gaping in the cup or straps fall down etc etc. I'm a slim size 8 and have small boobs. I think I was working out a 30C was a possibility for me. But where in London would I go. I'm nowhere near Bravissimo proportions. Don't want to spend a fortune over t'internet.

I hate bra shopping so really want it over and done with!

What are your measurements following this guide?

321zerobaby · 11/10/2014 19:32

Selfridges or John Lewis.

LadyRubyPenhaligon · 11/10/2014 19:35

Bravissimo have all sorts of sizes invluding30C

StatisticallyChallenged · 11/10/2014 20:33

Bravissimo start at a D cup, but Rigby and Peller would be a good option although pricey - you could get fitted and then go elsewhere to shop.

2ofstedsin24weeksistakingthep · 11/10/2014 20:50

I used the intervention measuring guide today for the first time and was so shocked at the size I came out at, that I went to Bravissimo to check. I went in thinking I should wear a size 34D (after numerous so called fittings) and came out a 32FF! Sounds way too small around the band as I am a size 16/18 but feels so comfy. Thank you so much to lovely ladies who have helped me see the light.

StatisticallyChallenged · 11/10/2014 21:06

I can definitely believe it, I'm probably a 14 on average but can easily need a 16/18 in some stuff (Jeans and shirts I AM looking at you) and I'm a 30 band.

MuddyWellyNelly · 11/10/2014 21:58

Sorry thought I'd posted earlier. I will try Selfridges I think, do they measure this way or will be on my own? In a hotel so can't redo it but think I measured at 30 and 34, but didn't know how tight to pull the tape measure.

30 and 34 suggests around a 30D. I'm not sure how Selfridges fit, but I would say if they try to put you in anything bigger than a 32 there is something up. Many good companies, like Bravissimo, don't use a tape measure at all - they assess the fit of your current bra. But a Bravissimo fitted bra will be one that won't add inches to the band size as a rule.

Needasilverlining · 11/10/2014 22:04

I'm 30 and 35 and now evangelical about my lovely 30dd bras (and norks). Listen to the lovely bra ladies, they will change your life.Smile

pootlebug · 11/10/2014 22:06

Go to Rigby and Peller. You don't have to buy their bras, you can just ask for a fitting. But at last you'll know what size to go for.

MuddyWellyNelly · 11/10/2014 22:29

Is it normal to go and find a perfect fit but not buy it? Blush. I do have a couple of expensive bras (a Simone Perele and another one) and they are the best fit of the ones I have, but right now there is no way I can afford £60 for a bra. I worry I will feel too guilty not to buy one!

MuddyWellyNelly · 11/10/2014 22:30

...or more. I'm guessing rigby and peller is even more mega pricy!

OneDayWhenIGrowUp · 11/10/2014 22:32

I went to R&P and didn't buy anything, didn't feel pressured either. It was a lovely experience too. Some of their bras were £110!!! If only.

EvilRingahBitch · 11/10/2014 22:34

For a standard size like that you don't particularly need a super-pricey bra from a specialist firm. I'd go to John Lewis Oxford Street who will sort you out a decent fitting Triumph or whatever at moderate expense (you can probably then nip down to Debenhams/M&S to DIY-fit yourself some more cheaper ones as long as you don't let their fitters within a mile of your cubicle). But there's also a Bravissimo just round the corner from Oxford St Tube who you can try because you might well be a D cup when properly fitted.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 11/10/2014 22:41

Go to Rigby and Peller. Be clear that you want something simple and inexpensive - they're inclined to bring out the 100 quid plus bras but they've plenty cheaper in the stock room! And if you don't like anything, don't buy anything.

Lushlush · 12/10/2014 08:48

Rigby & Peller is a truly memorable experience .....!

They dont even use a measuring tape merely look at you, at least they did for me! It was amazing.

MuddyWellyNelly · 12/10/2014 14:56

Well I'm in a 28D and she's off for a DD! My husband will be delighted by my newly enormous boobs!

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 12/10/2014 15:09

Where did you end up going?

MuddyWellyNelly · 12/10/2014 15:18

I've done Selfridges. Might have to save up for R&P but I have husband in tow so not sure I'd have got off with the experience or the cost today Wink

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 12/10/2014 16:00

If you've come out at d/DD then nip round to bravissimo, they'll have a good selection and not at R&P prices.

MuddyWellyNelly · 12/10/2014 18:04

Phone died earlier. Didn't manage today but might see if I can skive off work for a bit tomorrow. I'm happy with the cup I got but there is a bit of overspill behind my armpits that I'm not 100% convinced about. Unfortunately they only had one brand in a 28.

OP posts:
polyhymnia · 12/10/2014 18:09

Another R and P fan here - always go there for fitting.

StatisticallyChallenged · 12/10/2014 18:34

What bra did you get? I'm wondering if you maybe just need a slightly wider cup rather than a different size.

MuddyWellyNelly · 12/10/2014 22:22

It was a Freya. The only one they had in a 28. At least I now have a better idea of where to start for my next attempt.

OP posts:
LikeASoulWithoutAMind · 12/10/2014 22:40

Try and get to Bravissimo - they have plenty of styles in a 28 band.
