Help! Cornflake scab on face!

MilkshakeMonkey · 10/10/2014 11:48

cornflake is the best description of it. It's about the size of a 5p on my cheeck, random patch of scab that if I smile cracks and then exudates.

Tried sudocrem over night (like thick blob on top), attempting to cover with make up but not really covering.

Any tips to improve my appearance today Confused

Sounds like impetigo. You need a special.ointment to get rid of it. Impetigo is very easily spread, through touch. If you touch the scab and then another part of your body, you are likely to get a scab there. If you then touch a tap or door handle and someone else touches it after you, they are likely to spread it as well, and get scabs on face etc.

Definitely sounds like impetigo. You might need antibiotics or antibiotic cream. It's very infectious.

Very infectious.

If it's crusty and weepy then get it checked out. If it's just dry skin then try coconut oil.

Bummer, did wonder this as DS had similar scabbing, I just thought he had a spot that he'd picked!

won't be able to get into docs until Monday now, pharmacist should be able to help right? (but would have to remove make up first and expose the world to cornflake !! )

If your DS has it too, he may also need antibiotics if he is feeling unwall. They can be pretty pesky to get rid of. Try the pharmacist and see that they say.

MilkshakeMonkey · 10/10/2014 14:44

Ds has cleared up.

Chemist gave me some tea tree oil to apply 3 times a day. Stings but cornflake has stopped exudate.

Just need a paper bag to cover face! (have put wine in fridge to cheer me up later Wink )

A coldsore plaster might help if you are tempted to keep touching your face, also good for absorbing weepiness & general camouflage.

Compeed Night-time ones are best if you can find them (more absorbent), otherwise normal Compeed.

(I use for occasional picked spots Blush - they are great for letting skin heal up underneath. No idea if there is anything about impetigo that would counter-indicate, but I would think they may be good for preventing infection spreading through touching if the scab is small enough.)

Banoffee are those plasters basically hydrocolloidal ones? If so, OP, try the pound shops too, they've had small clear hydrocolloidal plasters boxed in various sizes as coldsore plasters, "acne dotz" and something else. Much cheaper than compeed I expect.
