Going to Edinburgh this weekend-- what to wear

I'm in London which has been warm.

I'm thinking Scotland will be colder.

Should I be wearing a winter coat and boots?

I'm thinking of wearing my Uggs just because they are cozy.

I tend to prefer dresses to jeans so think of wearing really warm dress.

In Glasgow
It is cold here in the mornings (2-5C) and then warms up a bit during the day.....nothing like London at the moment.

Edinburgh is always cold & it is set be a chilly weekend, but dry. Wrap up warm.

Comfortable shoes/boots are a must - Edinburgh is a hilly, beautiful city, just made for walking.

Do not wear Uggs, there is never any excuse for that in public.

PrimalLass · 10/10/2014 07:50

I've been too warm in Uggs by the afternoon. Yesterday I was in jeans, a jumper, converse and my raincoat.

Allyballybeeeee · 10/10/2014 07:51

Layers are the answer. I felt really chilled yesterday morning & wore a winter coat, by the middle of the day I was almost passing out from the heat. I'll be wearing a jacket over a light sweater over a vest top today.

Curiouslygrumpycola · 10/10/2014 08:04

Agreed. Go for layers. It's really changeable throughout the day.

mirpuppet · 10/10/2014 08:33

Thanks for teh advice.

I will layer. Bring my uniqlo ultra down to wear under my trench.

I will leave the uggs at home and maybe wear my skater shoes or biker boots.

Will wear warm dress or maybe jeans.

Or does any one have suggestions of an out fit to wear with the Whistles tube skirt I git this week?

Wear something that will cope with rain. And wind. have you got a hat you could pop in your bag in case of downpour and wind? You don't want to be faffing about with an umbrella.
It was chucking it down yesterday and in general Edinburgh is pretty windy most of the year (remembers the updraft at the top of the old Waverly steps that lifted people of their feet!)
Comfortable waterproof shoes/boots with decent support if you are going to be doing a fair amount of walking as the city centre is hilly.

tipsyloolah · 10/10/2014 11:38

I'm just outside Edinburgh today and think it's quite toasty. No coat or jacket needed. I've got a cropped cardi (quite thin), dress and opaques. To be even sunnier tomorrow.

It's a small place but that means you can walk everywhere, so 'yes' to comfy shoes. I agree that Uggs should never be worn anywhere though Grin.

Curiouslygrumpycola · 10/10/2014 11:40

I was just on princes's street and seen everything from flip flops to uggs. I have a light jumper and converse on and feel warm enough.

KatieKaye · 10/10/2014 13:02

Yes, it's lovely right now - blue skies and sun shining. Just yesterday morning I was thinking I needed to look out some gloves!

vitaminC · 10/10/2014 13:11

Every time I've visited Edinburgh, no matter what time of year, I've always ended up having to buy more clothes, so dress warmer than for where you live and then add an extra layer, just to be safe!

Even on a bright sunny day, it was considerably cooler even than in Yorkshire, where I'd come from, so if you're going from London, you'll feel it much more, I should think!

tipsyloolah · 10/10/2014 13:19

You're probably right - depends on what you're used to. Think it's about 12 degrees today but that seems pretty warm to me!

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/10/2014 13:32

It's getting colder but the locals aren't in proper winterwear yet, it's not that bad. Layers probably the best bet

LoadsaBlusher · 10/10/2014 15:52

Just back from a stay in Edinburgh and it was chillier than than home. If you are planning on doing touristy things like the castle remember its up a hill so gets cooler as you walk up the royal mile ... I had a parka with hood up,skinnies and Chelsea boots but wish I also had taken gloves and a hat ! When the sun was out it was a bit better though !
Princes street didnt seem as chilly as the Royal mile but still kept parka on .

mirpuppet · 10/10/2014 16:16

Thanks.

I will bring water proof and my hat.

The hat does kep me toasty.

My bikers are waterproof so they will the shoewear of choice.

My son has been going around London in a fleece jacket. I told him for Edinburgh he needed a winter coat. Is that wrong? Can he survive with a fleece a a long sleeve shirt?

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/10/2014 16:27

He might be a bit chilly in just a fleece especially if he's used to London temps.
