Where do you buy your teenage DS's shoes?

I bought teenage DS's school shoes from topman ready for the start of term in September.

So he has worn them every weekday since the 3rd September. They are wrecked. Scuffed and the sole is coming off one!! He doesn't play football so I know it's not that.

Obviously they need to be replaced, so where am I going that will sell decent hard wearing shoes that won't cost the earth?

TIA Smile

I would take them back if I were you. I bought my sons shoes from River Island. They have lasted over a year and still look very good.

GloriousGloria · 09/10/2014 22:39

I would have done if I had the time but I don't so I've had the glue gun out.

River Island really? I didn't think they would be much better than topman tbh

Just discovered Deischmann or may have spelt it wrong

JeanSeberg · 09/10/2014 22:42

Sports Direct.

purpleroses · 09/10/2014 22:43

Shoezone, because they're cheap. He trashes them in weeks

I used to buy expensive ones but he trashed them too. Now they're £8 a pair it doesn't bother me so much

GloriousGloria · 09/10/2014 22:49

Deichman and river island will get a visit then.

If you replace shoes every few weeks the cost must add up though

It does. But not as badly as when I was buying them at Clark's!

BellaVita · 09/10/2014 22:59

DS2 has these from Schuh.

He needed new shoes three weeks before he broke up for the summer. He is heavy footed and goes through shoes quickly, but these are still like new and still look smart.

burnishedsilver · 09/10/2014 23:42

Sports direct and sketchers.

Clarks - but from the menswear range rather than children's. They were expensive (originally £90 but paid £70 with discount) but are made from beautiful leather with a decent sturdy sole so they still look brand new...despite the fact that he is yet to polish them Hmm

DS had/has huge feet . After he grew out of Clarks' range - he wore Clarks but the men's range. I would often get them in the sale, or visit the outlet store nearby. They lasted well - and he says they were always pretty comfortable for the walk.

They weren't allowed to wear trainers - had to be proper shoes.

Only once did I buy him school shoes which weren't Clarks - and they fell apart within the month.

Pantah630 · 10/10/2014 12:16

DS2 needed new shoes this week, his old ones were men's slip on Clarks from our local independant, I needed a shop open after work this time though. Big Clarks at shopping centre didn't have any 11.5 or 12's, ended up in M & S, luckily some hardwearing looking slip-ons in there, let's hope they last. he went for these hoping they'll cope with a six mile round cycle as well as trekking between classses

Sipsmith · 10/10/2014 12:37

My DS wears Dr Marten Chelsea boots. He's changing schools next year and boots aren't allowed so I will buy him Dr Marten shoes instead Wink

bigTillyMint · 10/10/2014 15:18

DS is very heavy-footed but Kickers last well. But they are fairly expensive.

gymboywalton · 10/10/2014 15:20

all depends on what size he is- what size is he?

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 10/10/2014 16:27

MandM direct. I bought ds a pair of leather hush puppies (although he does not have wide feet, quite narrow but they fit) for £24.99 ready for the new term. He's very skilled at trashing shoes but they don't have a mark on them and are well made aswell as comfy and come with two spare pairs of insoles to make sure you use the appropriate ones and have spares.

It's a good place to grab a bargain on brands

GloriousGloria · 10/10/2014 19:28

He's a 7

So yes in men's shoes anyway.

I'll go to £50 at the most but I expect them to last at that price.

His feet grow a size every year and he's just turned 13.

I'll have a look at M&S, he's quite fussy too (what 13yo isn't?) so I know there's certain styles he won't wear.

I really wanted him to wear Chelsea boots too but school won't allow them, why? Especially in Winter?

I fear a trip to the dreaded meadowhell coming up rather than just the nearest town Hmm

My ds wears school shoes from Next - slip on style.

Out of school he wears Vans & Converse. All very expensive but he would refuse to wear a cheaper version

hugoagogo · 10/10/2014 21:49

ds is a 10.5 and I get his shoes from shoesforkids they are clarks, he had some mens clarks and they lasted weeks; while I can get him boys ones I will.

He is in year 11 so might just last...

gymboywalton · 10/10/2014 22:57

clarks do school shoes up to a size 10.5 and they are perfectly fine black school shoes without looking naff or anything.

my 11 year old has them in a 7.5

unfortunately my 14 year old is in a size 14 and has to get his shoes from a special website!
