Do you coordinate tights with your shoes or clothes?

I'd really like to get some nice patterned tights with designs this winter, but can't get my head round which way is correct?

Both surely?

leedy · 09/10/2014 17:59

Either! Both! Today my tights are the same greyish brown as my boots and I'm wearing a denim skirt and a teal top, but another time I might wear the same top, skirt, and boots with navy or teal tights.

Presumably if they go with one, and your shoes don't clash wildly with your clothes, then they'll look ok...

That is a good question! Usually I wear black tights and shoes, but if there is some navy in my outfit I sometimes wonder if navy tights would look better. But I don't have any navy shoes.....so would they work with black shoes....? (sorry, no help at all)

burnishedsilver · 09/10/2014 18:16

Both.

Patterned are tricky. They can look like a rash.

I like navy with red shoes.

Gillybobs · 09/10/2014 18:17

Either can work but I think matching to my shoes is leg lengthening

I like a clash, particularly jewel colours. So a dark grey dress with plum tights and dark green boots.

Cointreau That's a classic one there! i never wear thin navy tights with black shoes, (same rule as never wearing a navy blue jacket with black trousers). There were some really lovely thick patterned tights by John Lewis last year that i'm hoping to get this year, in unusual shades. It looks like from what everyone is saying, there isn't one rule, but have to coordinate each pair with whatever you've got that's easiest to coordinate with (wether that's the shoes or outfit), if that makes sense. Hoping some tight fashion gurus would come on and give some tried and tested pointers.
