Under cut for thick hair?

I have thick hair, no so much that each hair is thick but I have lots and lots of it apparently.

It is currently in a bob with some layering. When ever I grow it long it just get ridiculous, it takes hours to wash dry etc. So I end up getting fed up and get it all chopped off.

I had a light bulb moment the other day where I thought that maybe I could grow it longer and get a slight undercut, maybe only an inch or 2. That way there will be alot less hair.

Is this a ridiculous idea?

It's not but it's what a good hairdresser should do any way. Mine deep cuts mine so all the weight is taken away from underneath so the top layers lie nicely.

You don't need an undercut you need a GOOD cut!

You doGrin

I go toa Japanese hairdresser in London who cuts my layers in a way to take a lot of the weight away. I don't know how to describe it but it is almost like he cuts vertically. I have recommended him to a lot of Spanish and Italian friends, as we all have thick hair and we are all impressed. If you need his details, let me know

I was served in a shop today by a girl with the strangest looking hairstyle. It took me a few mins to work out that she was trying to grow out a severe undercut. Just something to bear in mind.

OP, I have hair just like you. I should love it really...but hairdressers always decide to do the wrong thing with it, get halfway through and sigh, "you've got lot's of hair, haven't you?". The get misled because the strands themselves are quite fine.

I don't really have any words of advice, apart from never ever get a razor cut Grin.

I have the same as you (tons of fine hair) and my hairdresser thins the underneath out so it doesn't take an age to dry - makes a big diff

I actually prefer the look of it thick, but it's a PITA

Go somewhere reknown for cutting like Vidal Sassoon and ask about panelling. Basically they cut short concealed panels into the hair and it takes out a lot of the weight.

I had it done once and frankly didn't like it at first because it made my hair feel like it had lost too much volume. It was at it's best the time after my next hair cut which was a normal hair cut. Then it was great.

It could be what you are after.

Sol-they sort of slice in at an angle don't they?

CeeceeBloomingdale · 10/10/2014 09:55

I get an undercut in a sort of sandwich layer, so not on the top, not the nape of the neck but the chunk inbetween. It's good, it avoids a triangle shape but still lies flat

SoldeInvierno · 10/10/2014 11:25

yes, I suppose he cuts at an angle and in very small sections. I joke that he cuts each hair at a time. In any case the results last so well on me, that I only go back every 10 weeks

PrimalLass · 10/10/2014 11:30

As in shaved? No, don't do that. My hairdresser cuts into the weight instead.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 10/10/2014 11:34

That's it, sol, yesSmile I only need mine doing every 8-10 weeks too. It's fab, I'd cry if my hair dresser left!
