Who makes shoes boots in size 8 which are a real size 8, not a EU 41?

I live in a crap town with crap shops and the next nearest cities are quite far away. It's not easy to find shoes and boots locally if I want some choice. I buy most footwear online but get caught out by the inconsistency in sizing. I'm a proper British size 8 but never know if what I am ordering is really an EU41. If European sizes are given and I order an EU42, I've sometimes received a shoe that equates to a British size 9. It's infuriating. I recently ordered some size 8 loafers from Jones, only to receive a EU41. And that was the biggest size they did.

Is there anyone that reliably sells a size 8 which is truly a size 8? Or an Eu42 which isn't a size 9?

I can't understand is why Euro sizing is so much more consistent than UK

Probably the shops you shop in make things in European sizes, but are inconsistent about their labelling of those European sizes in UK words.

I expect you're right Trills, still does my head in though (mind you, probably saves me a fortune. Shudder to think how much I could have spent in Russell & Bromley/ LK Bennett etc over the years...)

It is tricky!

I am a European size 41, and find that I often buy size 7.5 shoes in the Uk. A Eu 40 is more like a 7.

The thing with European Vs UK sizes is that it is not clearcut.

IMO, a European 41 (which I am) is exactly a 7.5, with an 8 being nearer a 42 (ie slightly too big for me).

I find that Gabor (old lady shoe alert! but some gems if you look) are true to size, a 7.5 fits my 41 feet perfectly. An 8 there is a 42.

They sell them at Charles Clinkard.

Yes, a 41 is a 7.5, not a 7. As said upthread, I much prefer the consistency of European sizing and most of the brands I buy are sized in that way, so no problem. the 'translations' of continental sizes into UK ones are all over the place, though.
