Please help me find a dress for a wedding in November.

I am not a dressy person so I am finding this a bit difficult.

In the past, when I have bought a dress for an occasion, I tend towards frumpy. I want to avoid this this time. I don't want a very posh dress because I would like to be able to wear it again - eg for Christmas day maybe?

I am approaching 50 and usually (ie when not buying for occasions) dress rather below my age, eg right now I am in a short dress from Apricot with leggings underneath. For this wedding, I am thinking maybe a wrap dress? I like the look but have never had a decent wrap dress before. I am a size 12/14, 5 foot 8, so quite an easy figure.

I don't have loads of money to spend (understatement!) but don't want to look like a country cousin (it is probably going to be a fairly chic wedding). Maybe £50?

I like the look of this but think it isn't chic enough?

This is quite nice but probably too short? Also, I think the print is rather dull.

Can anyone show me a few alternatives please?

Also, I am guessing it is not on to wear such a dress with long boots is it? In which case, I need shoe ideas too.

Slightly off topic but have you measured your bra size using the mumsnet method? Size 12/14 usually end up in a 30/32 back on here.

Thanks for the links everyone (Pompbear, I can't see one in your post? Confused). Sorry I went off last night, something came up. I haven't seen anything I really like yet though so I am girding my loins for a trawl around the shops later this week. Sad - I'm not a happy shopper!

Re bra size: I don't know the MN method but I had my bust measured about 2 years ago and went from a 36 C to a 34 DD. I don't know if this would fit with the MN method but I do know I have had a fantastic bust these last 2 years. It is because I now have a longed for cleavage that I want to show it off in a wrap dress. (Oh and when I said 12/14, what I meant was I am a recent size 14, still in denial that I have put on weight and no longer fit my size 12 clothes Blush If I had said I was a 14, would that have fitted better with the 34 DD bust?)

Depends where you were measured. Basically if they added any inches to your underbust measurement (looking at you M&S) you are probably in the wrong size. On the bra threads there are more size 14 32's than 34's
On phone socant link but have a look in active on style and beauty there is a bra intervention thread at the moment. Your cleavage may get even more impressive!
