Can I put a house style question here?

We will be moving house soon and taking on quite a large redesign project. I'm currently doing lots of online research for kitting out the new place and just wondered where everyone else looks for their household nicknacs / curtains / rugs / fabrics etc?

So far I've looked at places like:-
Dunelm, Next, Bhs, John Lewis, House of Fraser, Laura Ashley etc

Are there some amazing places that I'm missing out on?

Have a look through some of the interiors/Home magazines for inspiration. Often they list where things are from or where you can buy similar.

You can also use Google Images. So, for example, if you're lusting after a grey marble bathroom (Just me?) it throws up photos that you can click on to find the website the image is from. My search for the grey marble bathroom takes me to this website. You can use that to find curtains, lamps, rugs etc if you know what colour and pattern you're after.

If you have a TK Maxx near you then that's sometimes worth popping into for towels, bedding, throws, rugs, doormats, bins, cushions, lamps, photo frames, mirrors and kitchen accessories. They update their stock often so don't write it off if you don't find what you want on your first visit.

H&M sell home ware and are very inexpensive and Zara Home have some lovely things too.

I'm doing mine at the moment and I keep falling down Pinterest holes. And Etsy. Really unusual stuff and very varied re budget.

flingingmelon · 06/10/2014 17:59

And I'd second google images. I usually cut and paste my Pinterest finds into there.

I like Ikea. The quality of their products are generally pretty good and I like their catalogues for inspiration.

There should be loads of inspiration on Pinterest.

I'm quite keen on Scandinavian design generally, so I usually have a look at the shops specialising in that.

My big purchases in the last few years have been from independent local furniture shops, local to me.

Another fan of Pinterest here. It's great for scrapbooking colours/styles/layouts/ideas. You can look at other people's pins for inspiration, online catalogues, Google etc and create different pages to group your pins together.

Homesense- some tat, some lovely, quirky items that you don't see anywhere else.

SunshineOutdoors · 06/10/2014 19:19

I always look through 'house beautiful' magazine or similar to get an idea of what I like. Then find these things in lots of different shops, rather than having everything from Next, or Laura Ashley, or wherever. If you have a specific plan in mind you can find things as you see them and let your house 'evolve' that way.

SunshineOutdoors · 06/10/2014 19:22

I love the stuff on this website too

SunshineOutdoors · 06/10/2014 19:27

Have you seen the made website?

Disclaimer: have never actually ordered from them but love having a look

SunshineOutdoors · 06/10/2014 19:29

Oh, have a look on right move too and snoop round some houses similar to yours to see what you like the look of.

chipsandpeas · 06/10/2014 19:34

i look at the likes of right move at the more expensive houses to get ideas

Karbea · 06/10/2014 19:42

Have a look at maison du monde.

VeryLittleGravitasIndeed · 06/10/2014 19:52

I do a mix of eBay, ikea, H&M, etsy... All based off an extensive Pinterest mood board! I try to avoid using ikea and H&M for the feature pieces because once you know their stuff you instantly recognise it (and I like my house to look a bit individual).

LadyStark · 06/10/2014 19:54

I quite like the flash sale websites - Achica, Joss and Main etc. Not so good if you're looking for something really specific but good for browsing and inspiration.
