What is that handbag that I see almost every shopper in John Lewis carrying?

It's bugging me. It's a classic bag. My mother in law has one but it seems to be fashionable these days. It's really plain, almost bucket style, most often navy with a zip and a leather flap over the top that people always seems to leave undone. I think Kate Middleton has one. They look so simple that they shouldn't be expensive, but I'm sure they are.

They sit really well on your shoulder if you choose the version with the longer straps . They're really light but very strong.

Ok thanks,I always need longer straps as I'm very tall. I'd be happy to pay 70 quid for one because if it lasts 2 years that's 35 per year which is fine. Tbh I always presumed they were 100+.

have had mine for years and years. It's light so still okay when full of stuff. It's also better when it's raining if you don't want to ruin a leather bag.
The main gripe of mine is that everything falls to the bottom and it's bloody impossible to find things in it - black lining and have black purse, black phone case, etc.

Should last a lot longer than two years - mine have.
