New shoes - soles very shiny and slippy- help!

Looking for a smart pointy pair of 'dressy' flat shoes since I became pregnant. Found a beautiful pair but they are so slippy. Thinking of walking about on rough concrete to scuff the soles? Any tips appreciated.

Light sandpaper rubbed over the soles helps too (a quicker version of the concrete walking).

I think cobblers (Timpsons etc) will also put non slip/gripper soles on for you.

Thank You. I actually have sandpaper as need to finish a paintwork job so will try that first.

Get a sharp knife and crosshatch the soles.

Sandpaper or hot glue gun dots on the sole.

I always crosshatch with some nail scissors.

Never fallen on my arse (when sober) yet.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/10/2014 12:46

I just do the scissor thing.

Scissors here, too.
It's kind of an 'I'm def keeping these shoes' ritual for me

i had a pair of ankle boots that were so shiny i actually slipped over in them in the street. i took mine to timpsons and had them re heeled and re soled with something grippier, much better now but i can't remember how much it cost to have them done.

mamapain · 05/10/2014 15:51

I get many of my shoes resoled at shoe menders/cobblers. Its not that expensive and makes such a difference in grip. They usia;;y offer different sorts of sole but most will do the trick.

I took some to a shoe repair place and they did something involving a machine with a big spinning cylinder, didn't charge anything (I bought a protector spray to be polite).

I always have my new shoes soled and heeled with non-slippy stuff. Helps preserve the life of the shoe too.
