I'm starting a new job in a few weeks and going to buy some work clothes today. I've had a job where I didn't need to dress up before this so i need to invest in quite a few of the staples. It's not ultra smart but is normal office work clothes I think. I'm quite short and slim and but need to avoid anything too clingy on the hips, they're a bit curvy! And I don't want to spend too much. I'm also in my 20s so I'm not ready for M&S style just yet!

Completely stuck for ideas so really grateful for any help! Thanks!

Do you need to wear suits, or just normal office wear?

Do you prefer dresses or shirt/trousers looks?

I think just normal office wear, that's what I saw others wearing when I went to the interview. Dresses tend to be better as I struggle to get trousers that fit both around hips and are flattering..

If you are short, good high street places to start are Next and Dorothy Perkins that do work stuff in petite. Get yourself a blazer that works over your dresses and immediately gives smart impression.

I have a similar figure to you, short, slim with comely hips, though almost twice your age. I agree that as you get older, dresses suit better. I find them more flattering and practical.

I like LK Bennett, especially their court shoes which are high but so comfortable. I buy during their sales.

The usual suspects are Zara, Dorothy Perkins, Banana Republic, J Crew, Oasis, Warehouse, Phase 8. Stay clear of the garish stuff and go for more of the classic simple styles. I am very much a dress and cardigan/shrug with heels in the office person.

One place I find quite good is actually Boden, using the same principle of avoiding their crazy prints and going for simple styles. You can also try Asos or House of Fraser sites because of their wide range of choice.
