I'm on the hunt for tried and tested treatments to get rid of my many many freckles! Also a reasonable face cream for dry/normal skin. Thanks ladies!

Really?
Freckles are beautiful and most youthful looking Confused Are they natural freckles or caused by sun damage? There are 'treatments' available out there but they are all going to be pretty harsh - bleaching, peeling or laser - presumably the harsher and more potentially damaging the more effective.

Cream wise, people have been raving about old fashioned blue nivea as a night cream lately, that might be worth a try.

If you really want to get rid of freckles seriously then it can be done with laser. Prescription Retin A can also help fade them.

You may find you can make a difference with a Vit C serum or one of the lightening serums. I've used Medik8 White Balance to fade some around my eye that were unhelpfully in a straight line so looked ageing and I think it has helped and I didn't find the treatment harsh or damaging.

Don't they fade when you stay out the sun? I get freckles and my face is a bit sun damaged so I made the decision this year to use factor 50 on my face and wear a hat at all times when I'm on holiday (I'm on holiday a lot!). I just took a little tub of fake tan with me on holiday to apply to my face every 2-3 days to keep it the same colour as the rest of me! I barely have any freckles now..

Freckles are stunning and I think would look a bit odd if you tried to cover them up.

Mineral make up looks very natural and evens out freckly skin.

I have dry skin and honestly blue Nivea in the tub is amazing, and apart from fragrance the same as megga bucks crem de la mere.

I love my freckles, but I can understand how you may not like yours if you have lots and lots of them. I adore Aldi's Q10 day cream.

specialsubject · 05/10/2014 18:12

there are no safe over the counter lightening creams, and the OTC ones don't work.

Sicaq · 05/10/2014 18:35

I'm literally covered in freckles and ÃŽ love them (and find blokes tend to reeeeeally love them Blush). Are you sure you want rid? Could you be focussing on them as a displacement for something else? 'Scuse the armchair psychology.

Bolshybookworm · 05/10/2014 20:49

I have dry skin and like nivea pure and natural night cream. I'm also a big fan of avene (available in boots), but it's more pricey (£14 a tube).
Freckles keep you youthful, I love mine!

HappyGirlNow · 05/10/2014 22:54

There's a smattering of cute individual freckles and there's sun damaged skin with masses of freckles all joining up to form splodges of discolouration - not much nice about that!

happsymum · 06/10/2014 03:51

Will deffinietly be trying out some of the moiturisers you've all suggested - nivea seems to be the most spoken of. and will try Medik8 (thanks Kendra) for 'dem pesky freckles.
Thank you everyone! Grin

Ideally id like to fade a lot, and just get rid of the unflatterring ones i have - under my nose , on my chin, lips and under my nose (they are everywhere!) . i find i wear foundation all the time mostly just to cover over how many there are - you can still see them under my foundation but they look much better as they dont look anywhere near as many and some are completely hidden in my 'dont like them there' areas - so i guess you could say id like to fade them to the point they'd look like with foundation on . if that makes sense... i dont think id be able to get rid of ALL of them- would cost money i dont have and id have to move to a cave , as i do wear factor 50 on my face and still they darken and i get 100 more as i step in the sun - have found factor 50 AND foundation has seemed to help with me getting so many more, so found one help :) and means they probably are caused by sun damage as well as being natural.. my daughter has few on her nose which are adorable so she's very lucky, i just wish i didnt have them SO MUCH.

Sicaq i love your comment! (giggles).
and... hmmm hope not focussing them as a displacement for something else.... only thing can think of that would be is maybe they do make me look younger than i am - you look 16/17/18/19? when im 28 (sure my height doesnt help) but ok with that so think im ok there :) no psychology armchair i hope just yet.

Thanks again :)
