Clarks doodles falling apart, will I get a refund?

After 3 weeks of occasional wear DDs doodles are falling apart with splits down both soles. A quick look on the website and the shoes have very bad reviews with very similar complaints. I don't have the receipt but can show a bank statement for the purchase. Am I likely to get a refund? I don't tend to buy anything in Clarks and both DC wear Start Rite so money towards another purchase isn't that useful at the moment.

I bought a pair of shoes for Ds and they came away at the seams. They were a few weeks old and had been worn a bit but I took them back anyway as it was not the quality I expected from clarks. They refunded me no problem so I would definitely take them back

You might need to be quite firm about it, stating that you can evidence the purchase with the bank statement and that the shoes are clearly not fit for purpose. Less than a months wear is unacceptable so under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 I'd think you were due a refund!

For future reference, jo jo maman bebe so similar canvas shoes to doodles. I have found them to be better quality and they are cheaper too

I've had trouble with Clarks before on returning faulty items.

I had a pair of very expensive red shoes where the colour just rubbed clean away in patches in the first couple of weeks. The shop assistant told me it was a normal feature....and probably due to the way I wore them?

A pair of boots where the heel just collapsed internally so you fell through into the platform area....she looked at me suspiciously as if it was my weight that did it (I'm normal range BMI)

They did refund but very grudgingly.

However Brantano were amazing. I returned a pair of sandals without the receipt several months on with a credit card statement for an amount covering several purchases...we worked out the approx cost of my shoe as it was such a long time ago I couldn't remember and she did a computer search ...agreed she'd had sandals like mine on sale at that time for that price and refunded.

I had similar issues with doodles this year, they were rubbish. Brought them back but it was about 2 months after purchase. They didn't refund but gave me 40% of any other pair of shoes. No quibble. I probably could have pushed it but it was 2 months and I had no receipt for time of purchase, so I didn't.

I've been disappointed with doodles. I struggle to buy elsewhere as they go to an e fitting and other shops don't. All 3 dds are officially c fitting which don't exist.

I've always found Clarks helpful for refunds. I took some boots back that had a broken zip- Id worn them for a good few months in the winter, but still expected then to last longer. They arranged for a new pair to be sent to my home. Oh and I didn't have a receipt.

Both me and a friend had the same design fall apart - doodles camouflage pattern - and both were replaced with no receipt, no questions asked. The staff just said 'oh that shouldn't happen!'

Doodledot · 05/10/2014 09:04

Clarks told me they refund if they fall apart within 3 mths

I returned my eldest son's school shoes after a couple of months as the front was coming away (football in the playground......) I checked with my friend first as I got them in John Lewis (she works there ) and she said they'll take anything back within 90 days. I had the receipt and they swapped them no problem.

Today I'm taking DDs back to JL, also Clarks, because although they fitted them, she's had constant blisters and on Thursday had to walk home with one shoe off!

FWIW, I always keep shoe receipts, just write across the top 'so and so's school shoes/doodles' just in case as it's easier to argue with a receipt as back up. But if you have a John Lewis near you it's definitely worth buying in there just because their customer service is so good.

Speaking of Clarks, my ds trainers that we got for him at the beginning of this school term, are not very good. The velcro on the strap isn't sticking anymore. So he's had them little over 4 wks. We've got the receipt & plan on returning them. In fact the previous pair of Clarks school shoes we got him didn't last as long as the Asda pair we got him before. Come on Clarks, what's happened?

Sunmakesmesmile · 05/10/2014 16:45

Thankfully I was given a full refund with little fuss and didn't need to show the bank statement. They did insist on measuring DDs feet first to check sizing, but they agreed they shouldn't have fallen apart so quickly. The lady on the till then admitted that they've had loads of doodles back this year so there's obviously a problem with them.
