Pyjamas that don't shrink in the legs

Please can anyone recommend some? Now it's getting chilly at night I find I want to wear cosy brushed cotton jammies again (to hell with glamour, I want to be warm!) but every pair I have are now three quarter length in the leg - neither flattering or cosy. They all started off full length and I've bought from M&S, Primark, Gap, Next but all seem to shrink within a few washes.

So tell me, is there a brand that can be washed frequently but doesn't shrink? I'm a bit tempted by Hush or the Boden pull ons but don't want to spend that much if they're just as bad as the cheaper brands.

I know this shouldn't really be on S&B as flannel pyjamas are neither stylish or beautiful but you lot are so good at clothes shopping.

I have several pairs of White Company PG bottoms that I got in their sale, they have not shrunk yet and I have had them over a year.

I thought it was just me!! I found M&S bad, but Primark very good. My Mums M&S ones have been fine though, so not sure what's going on there!

I don't know about their brushed cotton ones but I've never had any shrinkage with my Debenhams pj bottoms - mine are 7 years old now and still in good nick.

SpaceStation · 04/10/2014 19:57

I love Boden pull-ons, especially now they do a longer length. I have several pairs, some have lasted many years, have not noticed any shrinkage - they wash well, and in autumn/winter you get lovely cosy brushed cotton ones. You can usually find a nice print too, strangely (as the world doesn't see your pjs) the prints aren't all as mad as typical Boden.

They're expensive but there is often a great discount code around, or look on ebay.

I love my pjs and it makes me really happy having nice ones. You can definitely be stylish and beautiful as you blob on the sofa!

NB Boden have a big sale starting on Monday, may also be worth checking out.

Do you tumble dry? Mine stopped shrinking after I stopped tumble drying them.

Pancakeflipper · 04/10/2014 22:36

My birthday pressie Fat Face ones haven't shrunk yet but only washed twice (it was a recent birthday, I am not a washing-slob).

uniqlo heattech leggings and shirt.
get it size larger.
comfy and warm and not sweaty.

BeattieBow · 04/10/2014 22:55

Hush ones shrink (at least the thicker winter ones do).

I have a pair of toast pyjama bottons that have been fine so far,

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 04/10/2014 23:09

Don't tumble dry, only line dry, and it only seems to affect the brushed cotton ones, the summer weight cotton ones don't shrink. Sounds like Boden in the sale next week may be the way to go!

I bought a size larger from Sainsburys and embraced the shrinkage.

However, the best way I've found...

Make your own!

You have to hot wash and tumble dry the fabric to start with, but once it's pre-shrunk you should be fine. I ordered my brushed cotton from fabric.com (US) because for some reason it's astronomical here. They're really easy, honest Grin

CaulkheadUpNorth · 05/10/2014 08:26

David and Goliath ones. I wish mine would shrink!

Hullabalooey · 05/10/2014 08:35

I've bought brushed flannel ones from Lands End - usually when they are on sale. Patterns are sometimes a bit twee but I got some OK tartan-y ones. They don't shrink at all and are lubberly and warm!

treaclesoda · 05/10/2014 08:38

I have Boden pj bottoms that I've had for probably six or seven years, maybe longer, and they are still going strong, with no shrinking or fading. But they're a funny shape and nowhere near as comfortable as other pjs that I've had.

Kundry · 05/10/2014 10:29

I have some lovely brushed cotton pyjamas from Bonsoir. They usually have a sale where you can by 2 pairs at reduced price but you don't know what colours you are getting - but all their colours are in the soft pastel tasteful line so this didn't bother me. They are lovely and v cosy and still going strong after 5 years but full price was too expensive for me!

Kundry · 05/10/2014 10:31

Found it - same offer as 5 years ago Smile

My Hush ones haven't shrunk and they are my favourite pair. The fabric is supersoft and warm and the cut is far better than any of my other pairs.

I also love Boden pullons but they are not, strictly, brushed cotton, not in my opinion anyway. They are cotton and they are soft, but they are quite thin and lightweight. I do love them (have at least 6 or 7 pairs) mind (and agree the longer length is brilliant)! For warmer, more flannel-y bottoms I like the Johnnie B ones, which will fit up to around size 12.

3lovelykids · 05/10/2014 15:10

I buy primark fleecy bottoms with an ankle cuff. They go in the drier and haven't shrunk at all. Grin

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 05/10/2014 22:19

I never even thought of Lands End, Hulla, thanks for that tip. And thanks to the poster who gave the link to Bonsoir too, had never heard of them but also looks promising - will have a think. I'm not going to go for Boden if they're thin - I want proper warm cosy flannelette - so that has saved me from disappointment.

Thank you everyone!

I go one size up on PJ bottoms. Then I buy cheapies from Sainsbos.

thenightsky · 05/10/2014 22:23

I've got loads with 3/4 length trousers after washing and drying.

DD said something interesting yesterday... she buys TKMaxx men's jammy bottoms to team with cheap tops from the market or primark. Men's are always longer in the leg to start with, so even after shrinkage they are still longer than women's.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 05/10/2014 22:26

Haven't they got open flies thought, Night? Bit draughty if so! I suppose I could stitch them up mind you.

OP posts:
thenightsky · 05/10/2014 22:35

Look through them... some do, some don't. DD is a professional seamstress though, so adapts everything she buys to fit properly.
