Best shop for first-time bra fitting?

DD needs her first 'proper' bras. She's been wearing supportive sports-style racer back crop tops for a while, but would now feel more comfortable with a proper (and pretty - her specification) bra.

We have tried self-fitting, but her measurements (28 below the bust, 31 leaning over in proper bra intervention style) seem to give a size (28C) that simply doesn't exist in white bras suitable for a nearly 12 year old. So I have tried the 'grab a bunch of sizes and try them on' approach, and a) they don't fit - mostly not lying flat in front between the cups and b) she gets REALLY fed up with having to try so many on.

So I need a recommendation for a shop that will sensitively fit a nervous 11 year old who is sensitive about her changing shape, and who are likely to have bras in a style and fit that are appropriate for her. We have a 'typical' town centre - M&S, Debenhams, H&M, a House of Fraser store etc. Have a Triumph and a Bravissimo shop, but they feel too 'old' for her. John Lewis is a fair drive away so would have to be a strong recopmmendation. None of the 'teen' shops seem to do fittings. She would prefer a 'non moulded' style, but one that's not too 'old'....but what she REALLY wants is to get to a properly fitting bra QUICKLY!

HELP!!

Spot on OP, it's ridiculous! My dd is not even particularly skinny and I struggle finding 28s so pity help her smaller friends...

same applies to grown women as well! I'm a comfy size 12 and need a 30 or 32 band. 32 is the smallest you can find in most shops. What about all size 6,8 and 10 women?

John Lewis do some 28C bras - best way to find them is just to put "28C" in to the main search box on the website. They had some teen friendly ones last time I checked.

OK, think it's the long round trip to John Lewis for me at half term. Any views on the fitting service at Cribbs Causeway?

A friend was fitted there once and it wasn't great tbh. The last time I went they didn't have any 28s and hardly any 30s.

Clutches at straws - Solihull? (equidistant, more or less, but trickier to get to). Any recommendations of specific independent etc shops in Gloucestershire area??

If you go to Solihull you could visit Bravissimo and JL.

Town I live in has a Bravissimo, but I just can't quite bring myself to see how a child who is currently wearing these:
crop tops in age 9-11, in total comfort, is a potential customer for 'bras in larger sizes'!

I know it seems a bit off but honestly they will be able to give you recommendations for sizes and shapes even if they haven't got anything suitable. They start at a 28D.

Are there no small specialist shops near you? I have always found little local places to be much much better at measuring and fitting. Even the tiny seaside town I grew up in has one, and we also have one in the fairly small town I live in now. They are both miles better than department stores.

Deathraystare · 18/10/2014 14:58

Got mine done a few years ago at Rigby & Peller in Westfield. Yeah, I know..expensive bras!! I had measurd myself before that. She did not even measure me - they can tell just by looking apparently! She was right too. I got 38F. As I had a bit of money then I got two bras from there. I have never managed to afford to go back but wherever I get my bras from (Dbenhams or M&S, Evans) I can sometimes get 38F or go up a bra size and down a cup size (40E, 42DD) and they are a fit.

I love Bravissimo being a bigger bra shop, and knowing I can go in and most things will be available in my size - not everything as they do have some which stop at a G cup.

But on the flip side I occasionally wish they would carry a small selection of smaller cup sizes just because it would encourage those people who have heard they are great at fitting but think they are too small in the cup - not saying that's the case here but it's really common for us to have people who don't want to go to Bravissimo because they think they will be laughed out of the shop. In reality they'd probably need a couple per shop as they'd never sell them anyway!

Really I wish we had somewhere which was good at fitting across the whole range of sizes - Rigby and Peller doesn't really meet that criteria for most people as they're even rarer than Bravissimo and they can be very pricey. It should be one of the big department stores, but it's not...
