So if you had £300+ to spend in Selfridges, what would you get?

I am very lucky to have vouchers for Selfridges and I don't want to waste them!
Any suggestions?

I'd buy the purse that I need now and save the rest for the sales - lucky you Selfridges is lovely.

Floisme · 03/10/2014 08:16

I don't think I would wait for the sales cos that's what I usually do and it would feel like less of a treat. I would get something that I loved but that was normally out of my league price-wise. Myself, I'd get/put it towards a fab coat because it would probably get worn every day for the next 4 months. But, you have enough of those, some good cashmere or an espresso machine.

HerbsWink

MsAsprey, I was thinking about doing that. Is it difficult to avoid having to buy something there and then?

I was in exactly this situation and bought myself a beautiful DVF dress for dressy evening going out. I still love it, it was a great buy. I had the vouchers for about a year though, fretting about what to do with them!

bigTillyMint · 03/10/2014 09:38

Yes, a beautiful dress would be good.

A Ralph Lauren jacket, or put it towards a fabulous coat.

Twinklestein · 03/10/2014 10:01

^tweed jacket that should have said.

I would wait til the sales. Start looking now with a budget of £5-600 and make a short list, I do this and add the pins to Pinterest so I can quickly find everything on the first day of sale! I had a £200 budget for a bag and my favourite was £400 at Selfridges - it went down to £190 and I snapped it up within an hour of the sale starting Smile

I disagree that it's less of a treat to shop in the sales, £300 is a healthy amount for treats by any standard and if you can get £600 worth of treats instead, why not? Otherwise you'll look at sale time and be annoyed that you spent needlessly too much / didn't get as much as you could have.

Are there any exclusions? I'd buy a Gucci bag I think, or maybe a Chloe.

Nancy66 · 03/10/2014 16:55

I'd make an appointment with their jeansologist or whatever they're called and get a great pair. £200 maybe

I'd spend the balance on La Prairie eye cream.

Or I might get an amazing feast from the food hall

bigTillyMint · 03/10/2014 17:33

Ooh that's a good idea ThisBitch - do you do the sale shop online?

OP posts:
Sleepwhenidie · 03/10/2014 17:36

mrsdavidbowie you need Shopbop in your life... [http://www.shopbop.com/lure-skinny-jean-goldsign/vp/v=1/1550200300.htm?folderID=2534374302025529&fm=other-shopbysize&colorId=70634 £265 in Selfridges]] - but try them on in Selfridges first to make sure you get the right size, sending back to the US is a PITA!

Sleepwhenidie · 03/10/2014 17:36

try again!

Nancy66 · 03/10/2014 17:43

Beware you can be liable for some massive duties if you buy on Shopbop

Sleepwhenidie · 03/10/2014 18:15

It tells you the duty deposit on checkout Nancy - total price is still usually significantly lower than here.

santamarianovella · 03/10/2014 18:31

I buy from shopbop all the time, they tell you total duties before checkout, their sales are fab too,
I personally wouldn't buy premium denim from selfridges, even in sales times, too crowded and just the hassle of trying on, really kills the joy of shopping there,

bigtilly the online sale starts before the store sales,

GloriousGloria · 03/10/2014 18:32

Chocolate brown over the knee boots.

I need some anyway so I may as well

Nancy66 · 03/10/2014 18:41

I'm sure that last time I purchased from Shopbop I got stung for a really unexpected charge from the courier. could be wong though.

ilovemonstersinc · 03/10/2014 18:42

Oooo id spend it on make up.
Not all of it....
id probably get everyone something each (dh and 3dc) and rest on me- make up, perfume etc

Sleepwhenidie · 03/10/2014 18:46

Nancy you probably did if you didn't pay the customs deposit when you checked out.

Nancy66 · 03/10/2014 18:49

oh...I see.
bollocks.

ThisBitchIsResting · 03/10/2014 20:57

Yes I shop sales online. I cba crashing into people in store, actually I would but having small children in tow is a slight hindrance.

The really posh brands don't sell in the Selfridges website though, Gucci, Chanel, LV - but Anya, Marc Jacobs, Chloe and more do.

For me it's shop in sales or don't have high end items at all - so I'm willing to put the effort in.
