How do I stop my hair going frizzy in damp/misty weather?

Argh it drives me mad! Leave the house with straightened shiney hair. Walk DD to school and back and end up with wavy/frizzy hair by the time I've got home Sad
Anyone got any miracle products to stop this from happening Please?

I would like to know!

I think it helps to put on a product like Frizz Ease but it's not perfect.

KittieCat · 01/10/2014 21:20

I use Umberto Giannini curl jelly. I used it on my hair to encourage the curl but now I use it when I straighten it, too. No more frizz but my hair doesn't go lank like with some serums.
Amazing stuff.

ThisBitchIsResting · 01/10/2014 21:27

I wish I knew. I always buy hooded winter coats and keep the hood up if I've just blowdried my hair. This means my hair will still be smooth and shiny when I get to work or whatever indoor activity. It has worked well for me for about ten years, although people do give me funny looks if it's not raining. Today I didn't put it up and I have a fluffy halo. Sigh.

KittieCat · 01/10/2014 21:32

Try the Umberto magic jelly! You can get it in holiday sized tubes for £2, so well worth a punt.

WhereYaFrom · 01/10/2014 21:36

It's so annoying isn't it?
kittie you've sold it to me! I will give that a try, Thank you! Smile

Same problem here, WhereYa, although I don't straighten my hair after blow drying it. My main problem is frizz/curl around the hairline at the front, which makes it look so untidy. I have had some success with wearing a hat to do the school run but I suspect I look a bit of a plonker, not being a very stylish person generally. I also tried wearing a wide fabric headband once, but definitely got funny looks that day - I think I looked about 12! My face is hideous doesn't suit hats etc really. But could you try either of those options?

DoTheStrand · 01/10/2014 21:38

OP I have exactly the same problem! Drives me mad. Will try the jelly I think.

ThisBitchIsResting I do a variation on that, I clip the sides back and in theory when I let them down later they are lovely and straight, doesn't always work though. Today the unclipped bits went gorgeous and curly rather than messy and frizzy and it looked fab all day but I can never rely on it doing that rather than just frizzing!

WhereYaFrom · 01/10/2014 21:53

mini I don't think I could carry that off unfortunately. But, I agree with what you've said though, that would solve the problem, as it's only the front bits of my hair that go fluffy.

I hate this! The only thing that has worked for me is to scoop the hair carefully into a loose wool beret-type hat. No product has ever done a damn thing for me! Have been doing the hat thing since I was a student, only downside is it is only an option for cold weather. Wet and mild scuppers me!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 02/10/2014 10:54

Tigi blow out balm or Loreal extraordinarily oil-both have transformed my hair! John Frieda secret agent is great for a quick smooth down after blow drying too.

Comito · 02/10/2014 11:13

I've tried loads of products and none of them have worked. The only thing which does is a hood up or hair scooped under a soft hat. It's annoying because you feel a bit of a plonker when it's not raining or cold but seeing as my walk to the station is nearly always deserted I decided I didn't care.

SwedishEdith · 02/10/2014 11:36

Agree that hoods and hats are the best but not always right in certain weather. I have started putting a tiny drop of Palmers cocoa butter body oil in my hand and putting that on the hair and that seems to work a bit. I use it for cleaning my face as well so is a bit of a miracle product.

MmeMorrible · 02/10/2014 11:47

You need Percy&Reed's No Oil Hair Oil it's amazing and my frizzy, fluffy hair is smooth and silky when I use it

carrielou2007 · 02/10/2014 13:55

I have so many products to smooth hair frizz ease, secret agent, hairspray, argon oil, every other oil makes hair lovely and sqooshi and sleek. Wash, dry, GHD hair looks fab. Half hour walk to school the back I have to redo it I look terrible,
Closest thing I have found cheap as chips vo5 gel spray with anti humidity stuff doesn't weigh down my hair and has a bit of 'hold' I still redo ready for pm school ti though incase meet man of my dreams Wink

carrielou2007 · 02/10/2014 13:56

Even after brazillian keratin treatment minuses but still a super thick wild bush header!

hellsbells99 · 03/10/2014 00:42

I use Bedhead control serum. Very large blob when hair wet. Let hair half dry, then blow dry, then straighten. Then run a bit of hair wax through hair.
Then I get away with not washing hair for a few days but occasionally straighten again. The more I wash my hair, the frizzier it gets.

cheval · 03/10/2014 00:57

I have crazy Irish hair that I loved and mainly loathed for 50 years. Best thing ever is a Brazilian keratin treatment, fantastic at containing frizz, even after a salty windswept yacht outing, getting very sweaty hat hair on a horse, mega rain, wind, etc. But it is sadly out of my price range at the mo.
In second place to that is a mix of Aveda Brilliant hair wax with John Frieda anti frizz serum on washed hair. Once it's three quarters dry, twist and tie it up into two Princess Leia (Star Wars) style buns. Leave as long as you can. After tease out into waves.
Repeat often. It does calm it down.

FrazzleRock · 03/10/2014 01:03

Brazilian blow dry works for me.
I have terribly thin and curly fly away hair which is totally tamed for months with this. I swear by it. £100 including a trim (mates rates mind...).
Best money ever spent. I can now wash my hair in the morning, rough blow dry it and it stays glossy and naturally straight (not poker, but straight enough!)

I'm a brazilian convert! Though I've not idea what it costs at a salon.....

Comito · 03/10/2014 11:36

Sorry, what exactly IS a Brazilian blow-dry? I've seen it advertised in local salons but it seems insanely expensive.

I once had Toni & Guy's yuko treatment which promised shiny straight hair. It cost me £££ and was a total waste of money.

FrazzleRock · 03/10/2014 18:59

It's an intense keratin treatment.
It's painted onto your hair bit by bit, then left on for about 40 minutes, then blow dried and straightened with the GHDs. You can't wash your hair or tie it up for 2-3 days. Then you must only wash it using zero sodium shampoo. That first wash is incredible!

A friend of mine also had that Yuko treatment at T&G and she also said it was a waste of money. She spent a good £400 and was totally ripped off.

carrielou2007 · 03/10/2014 19:27

Mine is the kit from Amazon, 27.99 two treatments lasts 6 months

DoTheStrand · 04/10/2014 08:27

Well I had my hair cut yesterday, and she tried a new shampoo / conditioner range including an anti-frizz spray for damp hair (i think it may have been Kerastase - in pink bottles). It promised great things but I still had to style it before going out again later to stop it looking a mess (it's lovely and soft but £20 is a lot to pay for that when my hair was quite soft anyway). Was in boots yesterday and saw the jelly stuff someone on this thread recommended, am going to try that.

I am determined to discover the secret to smooth hair that stays put - even if it takes me til I'm 70 to do it!

WhereYaFrom · 04/10/2014 08:54

I would love to try the Brazilian blow dry, but my local salon charges £140 which is out of my price range atm.
I looked in Boots yesterday and they didn't have any of the Umberto jelly Sad I think I'm going to have to go to a bigger store or look online for it.

Nelly K keratin treatment helps mine a lot. But really I need to move to a drier climate.
