Anything good in Primark lately?

Suddengeekgirl · 01/10/2014 20:07

I'm doing a quick dash into town tomorrow to do a Primark trawl without the dcs.

I need pyjamas and pants
Dh needs pyjamas too
The kids need more winter clothes

Am I likely to find any gems or will it be a jumble sale of tat? Confused

Love love love their fleece lined opaque tights, they are the only thing that gets me through winter in my office full of hot blooded fresh air freaks!

morechildrenplease · 02/10/2014 23:19

I have a fantastic pale pink coat with shearling hood. Super cute

BettyMoody · 03/10/2014 05:42

Did primark exist in 2004?

JustASimpleSpongeCake · 03/10/2014 06:27

Definitely Betty, I've shopped at the Manchester one since I was sixteen, if not earlier - so it's been around at least 13 years.

dirtyprettything · 03/10/2014 09:36

yep fleece lined tights are brilliant, actually all the tights are good and cheap

I love the cheapo UGG fakes which I wear as slippers - they keep my ankles warm

Scaredycat3000 · 03/10/2014 09:48

Primark has been around as long as I remember! At least 30 years, it just wasn't fashionable Grin

juneybean · 03/10/2014 12:46

Argh tried to get fleece lined leggings today and only had 6's left Hmm but did get a Harry Potter vest (albeit in a size too small but is very stretchy) along with two longline cardigans.

Fabulassie · 03/10/2014 12:53

I just wanted to post in this thread to reiterate that I LOVE Primark. It truly is my happy place.

bleedingheart · 03/10/2014 13:06

The pyjamas are great. They have some lovely prints and they wash well.

I've never had a problem with things shrinking in the wash from Primark but I have from other stores.

I also rate:
Parkas -coats can be hit and miss but they do this style well
Blouses- manmade fibres ahoy yes, but rarely need ironing and the plain colours are stylish
Children's Thermal vests
Plimsolls/canvas pumps -great value, pretty sturdy
Fleece blankets/throws - usually about £2/3, great for piling on DCs beds when they complain of the cold because mummy's spent the gas money in Primark
Hairgrips/hairbands- you get loads for a £1
Scarves -they have some lovely soft plaid ones in at the moment, huge and costing about £5. Very similar elsewhere for 2 or 3 times as much.
Turban towels -those microfibre towel thingies for your hair, about £2 and wash well
Children's accessories -much cheaper to buy character crap they'll go off quickly here. E.g. Minion umbrella £4, Disney hairband set £2

Personally feel the boys clothes are nicer than girls clothes, H&M is probably better for young girls at a similar price point.

bleedingheart · 03/10/2014 13:16

Tights and socks too. My DC got through socks like crazy but some Primark ones have lasted longer than M&S, John Lewis and various supermarkets.
Properly opaque tights, not just thick but truly opaque!

noddyholder · 03/10/2014 13:42

Nipped in there today and bought a red scoop neck long sleeve t shirt £3!

ThisBitchIsResting · 03/10/2014 16:54

Their cotton / elastane long sleeved boat neck tops are ace. I have 3 stripey ones in different colours - they are my hg Breton and only £4. They wash perfectly too.

They also have skater shoes in black pony skin (fake obv) which are £12 and really comfy, look exactly like ones currently on Atterley Road for £90. Perfect for what's clearly a one season wonder.

BlueBrightBlue · 03/10/2014 17:01

T shirts, cami vests, PJ's and bras. The quality and cut of their other clothes is cheap and tacky.
Shame, they used to have lovely stuff years ago.

tipsyloolah · 03/10/2014 18:41

Longline vest tops at £3 are great.

There are lots of layering things in just now, all about £5 each, seem no different to the stuff on links often posted here that cost about £50 for a basic thin knit top.

They have an identical version of a Top Shop jumper that costs £38 there - £10 in Primark. Baggy, v-neck, grey or black. It's perfect.

Knickers are massive though - I'm a 12-14 and need an 8-10 there.

tillyann2013 · 13/11/2014 16:29

Hoping to get to primark this weekend, anything worth getting?

Hakluyt · 13/11/2014 16:33

My ds bought a fab duffle coat for £30. He's a tall 13 and the small men's fits him perfectly. Also some great coloured chinos, and jeans. Once again, tall 13 and regular leg 28" waist men's fit well.

Coffeeinapapercup · 13/11/2014 16:45

They had some decent nighties. I fit their £3-£5 bra a knicker sets so always pick up a couple of them. Sticky tape on dispensers. And bed sheets

UterusUterusGhali · 13/11/2014 16:52

They often do cute wrapping paper near the tills. I grab a couple of rolls of the comic book stuff.

UterusUterusGhali · 13/11/2014 16:54

Oh, and fleecy throws for camping and the back of the car.

All the DCs undies; DD really rates their bras and says they're the comfiest she's tried.

Long line vests. (They call them cami dresses.)

RedButtonhole · 13/11/2014 16:55

I think that the kids button up pyjama sets are lovely, Ds always receives a couple of pairs at Christmas, they wash well and are really cozy, as are the kids jogging bottoms and £1 T-shirts

I don't buy much for myself as I find their sizes come up quite small but I do like their vest tops and cardigans- I stay away from trousers and anything that doesn't have a bit of give.

My favourite ever Primark purchase is my Moomin pyjama top, I love the Moomins but merch isn't that common, I wear it as a normal T-shirt

itypefast · 14/11/2014 11:57

I bought a pair of black suede ankle boots for £15. They're so comfy - I'm going to buy another pair.

tillyann2013 · 16/11/2014 19:09

Thanks everyone, bought loads. Undies, pjs, 3 jumpers, vests and boxers, scarf and hat, 2 skirts and the loveliest Christmas duvet! Was in there for 4 hours Grin
