Has anyone bought from Zalando?

I have come across some clothes I quite like (and especially like the price!) on Zalando. BUT, I have no experience of shopping with them, there seem to be several terrible online reviews of them and their sizing appears to be rather odd. E.g. sizing for jersey dresses suggests that a 36" chest is a size 14 / L. I am usually a 10 (sometimes 12) in most high street shops. Nobody I know seems to have shopped there. I was about to completely discount them when I thought that perhaps Mumsnet might know...

So - anyone shopped there successfully, and do you take their measurements for sizing as accurate?

They have lots of brands I have never heard if but I bought a fab twintip parka there last year and customer service was excellent

phonebox · 01/10/2014 17:50

They're correct. A size 10/12 is no way a 36" band if measured the proper (MN) way. More like a 30 or 32"

Souper · 01/10/2014 17:55

I bought a handbag from there a few weeks ago. It was delivered promptly but was too small. I sent it back and got refunded quickly. No complaints!

HammeringBird · 01/10/2014 18:06

Oooh, OK. That's sounding rather positive.

So, phonebox, what is the correct MN way of measuring then? I have to admit that I don't normally hang out in s&b.

I have a 36" chest and 30" waist (waist sometimes creeps a bit but the chest never does!) and Zalando says that makes me a 14. I was just surprised because a 14 from Next (for example) would be far too big on me.

What's your under-boob (rib) measurement? That's your band size.

HammeringBird · 01/10/2014 18:23

31.5" / 80 cm

Zalando says to measure around the fullest part of the bust.

Yes, quite a few things, they're fast and efficient.

I wouldn't pay any attention to Zalando sizing because all brands come up differently anyway.

Twinklestein · 01/10/2014 18:30

For example I take 32E bra. I bought a Benetton dress from them last year in XS. I am a size 8, but no way is the fullest part of my boob 31.9 inches, more like 34.

No problems at all with ordering from Zalando...

RubbishTiming · 01/10/2014 19:43

Love Zalando - free delivery and returns. Order lots from them and never any complaints.

toptrumps1 · 01/10/2014 20:11

I've used them and returned and was refunded no problems. I find most size charts are generic, with a multi brand site, I'd go to the actual site of the brand you're interested in, or cross ref the brand across a few sites which sell it. Zalando don't change the label, so e.g. a small will be a small in all places. What brand are you looking at?

TweedAddict · 01/10/2014 20:12

I buy at of joules things from there, always been fab

HammeringBird · 01/10/2014 22:46

I was looking at some Even and Odd dresses, but it looks like it might be a European brand so maybe their sizing is a bit different. With people saying they haven't had any trouble with returns etc., I feel a bit more confident about ordering a couple of sizes to see.

They have quite a mixed bag of stuff. I stumbled across them when I googled a designer I wanted (Vilshenko) and they had some of her dresses left in their sale. Because it's a mixed bag and not so well known in this country, you can find some great bargains, and the dress I wanted was reduced from £900 to £220 on their site. Service was fast and very helpful.

Interestingly enough, their IPO has just valued the company at £4.1 billion, pretty big for an online retailer we know very little about. Being German though, they are very well organised. I just think the stock needs better curating, but they are great for discounts.

ralphi · 02/10/2014 08:55

I live in Germany, and they are huge here. Have ordered quite a bit from them, mainly stuff for the dcs but some things for me too, and have never had any problems. Delivery is fast, well packed, free returns, no problems with refunds etc. But I would not rely on their sizing as they are selling brands rather than their own make, so take the size you usually would take.

Petal02 · 02/10/2014 09:08

I've used Zalando before, no problems at all.

HammeringBird · 02/10/2014 10:21

Thanks, everyone!

I've purchased known-brand sports stuff from Zalando on a couple of occasions with no problems at all. If you sign up to their mailing list you get a £10 voucher.

millymae · 02/10/2014 11:04

I've had no problems with them either. I even returned something that developed a fault after several months and they refunded me straightaway.
As EveryGoodBoyDeservesFun says sign up to their mailing list and get your voucher before you buy.

toptrumps1 · 02/10/2014 14:31

If you haven't aready ordered, they are also on Quidco, 8% cashback plus an extra 1% if you pay through paypal and there's free delivery on all orders. (not sure if that's always the case though)

HammeringBird · 02/10/2014 18:32

Signed up to mailing list AND joined Quidco. Thanks!

I love Quidco, you don't get the money straight away, and it may only be a few pounds at a time, but it soon mounts up. I've earnt back nearly £300 in the last couple of years (I do NOT want to calculate how much I spent to get that though!).

The hardest thing is remembering to use it, you'd be surprised how many companies are there. Boden, White Com, My-Wardrobe, M&S, Gap, Mint Velvet, Kurt Geiger, lots of MN favourites. Happy shopping!
