When I am bored, I read Boden reviews and mark them ALL as unhelpful.

Especially the ones containing the cliche "dress it up dress it down" ( which I recently saw in a review of some pleather trousers - HOW do you dress them down?!)

In general I do find Boden reviews very helpful. Particularly comments about size. If my usual trouser size doesn't fit me, I go back to the reviews to reassure myself that everyone's experienced the same thing. If that's not the case, I get extremely grumpy.

Oh, thanks goodness! I thought it was just me who ranted over Boden reviews. 95% of them are utterly useless.

Hardly anyone gives you their stats, height, body shape, so you have no idea whether it would suit you or not.
eg
Very flattering on, (well? Will it be flattering on meWHAT DO YOU LOOK LIKE!!!)
Loved the colour. (what colour was that then?)
Couldn't wait to try this on, looks fabulous, will buy in more colours! (good for you. Fancy giving us something to work with?!)
Came to just above my knees. (with no hint as to whether you bought petit, reg or long, or whether you are 6' or 4'2"!!)

I don't actually give a crap how you felt about it, just want to know if it would work on my shape/size etc. Stick to the facts people.

I think the unhelpful reviews (as those 123Jump mentions) are the result of the "Win £1000 by writing a review" emails you get after every purchase.

polyhymnia · 29/09/2014 18:55

They certainly seem to be written by people who have no idea at all what the purpose of a review is.

BettyMoody · 29/09/2014 19:34

Agree 123. The gap US. Site ones are very informative wrt size

321zerobaby · 29/09/2014 19:53

I like Boden reviews. If everyone says it doesn't fit its a funny shape, then I know its bound to fit me.

pinkfrocks · 29/09/2014 20:14

Gosh I hope you all like mine as I seem to be a Top Reviewer.

123Jump · 29/09/2014 20:24

Just give information that is actually useful to other people wondering whether they should buy it. Stick to that and you'll be a useful as well as proficient reviewer, pinkfrocks.
Out of interest, do you review everything you buy, pinkfrocks? Despite lining JBs pockets for years, I can never be arsed to write that many reviews.

pinkfrocks · 29/09/2014 20:26

I review 90% of what I buy but 90% of it is returned so the reviews are usually very negative. ( I am fair but honest) I only do it to warn other buyers but you also get entered in the £1K draw- so you can spend more money and return it all Grin

MrsEboJones76 · 29/09/2014 21:57

I often write reviews (too much time on my hands) and yes, try to say what size I am, size I bought (I go between a 6 and an 8 in Boden), colour, what it looks good with etc...
I read other reviews to get a sense of if an item comes up big or small. I weep over the reviews that say my husband said nah so I sent it back FGS.

PulpsNotFiction · 29/09/2014 23:07

So, has anybody ever won the elusive £1000? Or heard of anyone who has?

Coumarin · 29/09/2014 23:45

"My wife looks lovely in it." "Returning as it didn't suit the wife."

Any review written by a man on behalf of his wife gives me the heebies for some reason. Either come out with it and say it was for your Friday night cross dressing club or leave your wife to write her own review fgs.

polyhymnia · 29/09/2014 23:54

I also review about 90% of everything I buy and sent back about 80%.
