What do you wear at home?

I'm off work nervously awaiting a life changing op. I've been at home for a few months now and I'm getting to a point where I dont know what I wear any more!

For the first week I relished living in PJs, but the shine quickly wore off and I felt like a slob.
So I moved on to my pre-illness usual weekend wear of skinny jeans but they're too constricting to rest in and, tbh, I still felt a bit of a lay about after being used to donning office wear every weekday.
I'm currently going through a period of wearing dresses, stretchy swing or skater style as they're most comfy.

But it got me thinking: if you spend most of your time at home (for whatever reason), what do you wear?

Goodluck with your operation :) If it were me, i would wear some loungewear or would also live in leggings and tunics.

I am at home most days but for a different reason, I'm a sahm. So quite often when I get home after the morning school run, I change into leggings and an old t shirt, but only because if I'm having a home day I will spend most of it cleaning/tidying/laundry/playing with toddler, and I want to keep my nice clothes nice ifyswim. But that's probably the equivalent of you wearing the pjs Wink

in your position I would dress as comfy as you can, while still feeling like you have nice clothes to put on, especially if you are going to have a further long recovery period at home after your operation. Are you able to invest in some nice loungewear? Sounds like you may get good use out of it. If not then dresses are a fairly comfy option, depending on the nature of your op/condition. Maternity style clothing has flexibility in the waistband etc. and some of the old t's i wear at home were previously my maternity wear, but I appreciate this might not suit everyone.

Good luck with your operation Thanks

SAHM, summer Tshirt and cropped trousers. Winter long sleeved Tshirt and jeans if I'm likely to be seen, leggings, loose black yoga type trousers if I'm not.

These were from M&S years and years ago and are really comfy.

I also have a black vellor Sainsbury's track suit (jogging bottoms and hoddie) which is really nice when it's cold.

ElephantsNeverForgive · 28/09/2014 22:34

Oh, and my very thin pink knit shirt with pasta sauce down it when the rather good looking DHL man came the other day Blush

goodasitgets · 28/09/2014 22:34

I like some of those smarter slim leg jogger type trousers. Long vest tops, I wear lots of layered things
Or stretchy dresses and skirts

ElephantsNeverForgive · 28/09/2014 22:35

Night shirt.

thenightsky · 28/09/2014 22:35

Whenever I've had protracted periods at home (mostly maternity leaves) I've worn all my 'mistake' clothes. Grin

burnishedsilver · 28/09/2014 22:38

Jeans mostly. I'd like to branch out and be more adventurous but I'm happiest in the jeans.

GilbertBlytheWouldGetIt · 28/09/2014 23:00

Harems, a vest, baggy jumper or cardigan.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 28/09/2014 23:10

I always get fully dressed with a full face of make up incase I get an unexpected visitor, but after an operation I think a nice pair of pjs are fine.
Love thoughts and best wishes on your operation.

mysteryfairy · 28/09/2014 23:21

Hush is good for lounging but still dressed things. I usually wear skinny jeans at home and dont feel uncomfortable, but if I ever do wear harem pants I'm shocked at how comfy they are.

I have some cashmere wide leg pants for lounging which are also very nice to wear.

awsomer · 29/09/2014 07:32

Thanks everyone Smile

It's seems to be a bit of a balance between feeling comfy and still feeling myself/nice. (Not to mention not wanting to look like a slob if well meaning visitors come round.)

I got a bit of money for my birthday recently so I think I'm going to do some online shopping with all your ideas.

SAHM. I always get fully dressed (smart black trousers or pencil skirt, figure-hugging top) and put make-up on. I have recently lost weight and realised that I had to take care of myself more in order to lose the weight, not the other way round. If I dress like a slob, I behave like a slob and overeat.

I change into straight leg jeans / chinos if we go for a long walk.

yazzy85 · 29/09/2014 13:42

I recently bought some jogging bottoms from next which look great compared to normal tracksuit bottoms. Or velour type ones are nice too.

singaporeswing · 30/09/2014 03:15

My home wardrobe is basically all of Uniqlo.

Unlabelled · 30/09/2014 05:34

Sweaty Betty unwind yoga pants. Really comfy, they just recently had a 50% sale.

Petal02 · 30/09/2014 09:33

In warmer weather I wear cropped joggers, they're cuffed just below the knee and are less fitted than gym-wear capris, and are therefore more forgiving. I wear layered vest tops with these, and I've got some nice zip-through hoody tops. Then I try to find 'nicer' full length jogging bottoms in the winter. I suppose you could say I wear yoga attire at home, it's casual and comfy, but I feel OK in it, and I don't mind answering the door!

Fairylea · 30/09/2014 09:39

Sahm here.... I just wear comfy jeans (sainsburys tu are great for comfy ones) and a long tunic type thing usually from seasalt. If I go out I just bung converse on :)

I used to have to be smart for work every day and I love the fact I don't have to bother anymore.

Come 5pm I am in my pj's and very fetching spotty dressing gown....!

AnathemaIsANiceNameForAGirl · 30/09/2014 09:41

Jeans (but comfy ones) with a basic longsleeve tee and a cashmere jumper. I remain comfortable (essential) whilst still feeling presentable and a bit luxurious. In the evening I change into nice PJ bottoms and a sloppier cashmere jumper.

Oh and sheepskin houseboots!

Petal02 · 30/09/2014 09:48

I've never found any sort of flattering jeans that are comfy enough to lounge round the house in. Which is a shame.

Clackety · 30/09/2014 10:01

M and S jeggings tee and cardigan. Comfy and casual.
