These boots - in black or grey?

Am thinking of ordering these boots to go with skirts and dresses for work.

Am wondering about grey for a change but maybe black would look smarter … decisions, decisions - any comments, oh wise ones?

The leopard ones look soooo funky!!!
Very difficult. Have you got other black boots? If so go for the grey. They are both lovely.

Greengardenpixie · 28/09/2014 20:02

The grey will get ruined quicker.

Windowbasket · 28/09/2014 20:04

Thank you! You are right re: the grey getting ruined quickly. I'll be honest, I totally love the leopard ones but am worried about a) being too old (46!!) and b) will they be 'too much' for my very 'straight' office environment?

They look like the kind of boots that Trinny and Susannah used to shove everybody into.

If you deffo want them, then black.

Greengardenpixie · 28/09/2014 20:14

Well, i am 46 too and always love these kind of quirky prints from boden but I think i would only wear the leopard ones casually tbh...and for me, although im drawn to them, i know that i have way to many patterned clothes for me to be practical as i love prints and have bought many orla kiely bags and have sold them because i dont like too many patterns together. Nothing to do with age.

Greengardenpixie · 28/09/2014 20:15

Trinny and Susannah?? What have they got to do with it?
They look elegant.

Windowbasket · 28/09/2014 20:18

Erm - ok, now I am worried! I want to look elegant for work and fairly minimalist. I was thinking with a black skirt, grey top, some simple jewellery. Remus - if you have any other (better) ideas, I am genuinely open to them as I'm not the most confident when it comes to choosing clothing, shoes etc. All ideas welcome Smile

I bought grey boots last year, I love them so much - BUT I never wear them as they never feel like they go with anything.

Buy black.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/09/2014 20:22

I'm sure they'll look nice for work, but personally I think the stretchy kind look a bit old fashioned. Would prefer leather.

Windowbasket · 28/09/2014 20:23

Thanks, Thurlow. I somehow thought black might be playing it too safe. But then as you say, would the grey go with everything …

Windowbasket · 28/09/2014 20:24

Remus - I do know what you mean. The problem is, I have narrow calves and was hoping for something that would make me look elegant! Can you recommend any leather boots that might have a similar effect?

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/09/2014 20:26

I must admit I tend to have heeled ankle boots and flat knee boots but these look a fairly classic heeled knee high.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/09/2014 20:27

But they will prob be way too big on the calves - I have similar problems!

Windowbasket · 28/09/2014 20:28

Ok then - thoughts on these? www.boden.co.uk/Womens-Shoes-Boots/Boots/AZ199-BLK/Womens-Black-Stretch-Heeled-Boot

Second link is same as first...

I'd get grey. They look more modern than the black and i'd wear grey with black or navy or green. Prefer them as slightly softer which reduces the impact of them on the outfit overall.

But I own a lot of impractical footwear, so maybe just ignore me Grin

Windowbasket · 28/09/2014 20:35

Sorry - meant to link to these www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Shoes-Boots/Boots/AZ196/Womens-West-End-Wedge-Boot.html

I don't like wedge boots, so not fond of those either, sorry.

Greengardenpixie · 28/09/2014 21:22

I much prefer the first ones. I think the ankle ones can look heavy with skirts depending upon your leg shape. I would stick with the black suede ones. I dont think they look old fashioned..just a classic. I think you will look lovely in them. If they had a fine heel i woujld say no..but they are kind of 70's esque which i rather like. Trust in yourself and buy them if you like them. You will always get differing opinions on here.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/09/2014 21:32

Yes - deffo buy the first ones if you like them. :)

Twinklestein · 28/09/2014 21:38

If you have narrow calves, the Boden ones will be huge.

Peter Kaiser do stretch boots like this and this

I'm so over riding boots, and I think that the current non-slim-fitting knee boots are unflattering on a lot of women as they make their legs look bigger.

tethersend · 28/09/2014 22:11

Grey ones = ok. Ish. I don't like the black sole.

Black ones = Trinny and Susannah (good reference, Remus)

Leopard ones = Ladyboy boots

Wedge ones = hooves

If you have narrow calves, it might be worth spending a lot bit more and getting a pair from duo or similar. Something like this. Or have a look at the outlet section for cheaper ones.

wingcommandergallic · 28/09/2014 22:13

It's a lot of money for something that isn't leather.

noddyholder · 28/09/2014 22:20

I have the jones ones have had for about 6 yrs and never tire Am getting them re heeled again. Love them
