Post baby style crisis

Hi, my baby is 5 months old now, & I've got to accept that my remaining 'baby weight' is actually just 'weight' - and is all on my tummy. I'd love to update my wardrobe & no longer wear maternity clothes, but struggling to find things that a) hide my significant remaining bump as much as possible, b) are suitable for breastfeeding and c) look vaguely stylish. I'm mid 30's, 5'4'' - any help or pointers in the right direction gratefully received. Thank you!

I have got around this by wearing high waisted jeans and pencil skirts. I find that if I get the bottom half right and get a smoother silhouette it gives me a greater choice of tops other than just 'floaty' Grin

Also, you're only 5 months in, that's early still, perfectly normal to still think of it as 'baby weight', it's what it is! I didn't get back to my previous weight until 7 months after my first, I'm 9 months after my second and not there yet. Take your time.

I'm 4m in and definitely still counting mine as baby weight! I've done the first 3 weeks of Mutu system, which is a 12 week program incorporating diet advice, physio core strengthening and HIIT workouts to banish the mum-tum, but I still have a stone to lose. So far I've invested in a new haircut, eyebrow reshape and tint, an under wired bf bra and some new shoes. I've also had a mammoth wardrobe clear out in preparation for rewarding myself with some new clobber when I reach my target, hoping to get there in the next couple of months.
I'm planning to go to John Lewis and have a (free) session with a personal shopper, is this an option if you want to try some new looks?

Thanks for replying soot gremlin. Yes high waisted jeans is a good idea, not sure I'd carry off a pencil skirt though - too much time scrabbling on the floor with ds (3) - might not be the most elegant look Grin. Yes I do hope to lose more over time but for now would like some clothes that fit the size I am rather than squeezing into pre-pregnancy, or wearing items bought to show off, rather than hide a bump!

Err ds is only 2. I still have my "baby weight" plus some Krispy Kreme weight too Grin.

I felt the same though when I was at that horrible in between stage, someone pointed me towards dressipi.com, you enter all your info, what bits you like to hide/reveal, height fave colours etc. And it basically brings up lots of options for you that will suit your figure, it also tell you what colours will suit your colouring.

Although I'm still a size 14 and will one day be back in my 12's I no longer feel scruffy living in just jeans, I feel a bit more smarter even if I am just working from home or getting muddy in the park. Things fit me better so i feel better.

I'm 9 months in and nowhere near my pre-preg weight although bizarrely nearly back into my pre-preg jeans. I think it's boobs (still bf) and tummy, neither of which I had before DD! I bought new jeans after about 3 months as I was sick of being in maternity clothes. And boxy / floaty tops, which are all over the place at the moment conveniently.

But the most important thing is stomach exercises. Mutu system or Pilates or the post-natal iPhone app or be-fit mom or whatever (all the same really, tone the transverse abdominis and core without pulling apart the abdominis rectus). It's the only way to get rid of mum tum.

Aw thanks all, you're making me feel better, I think maybe I've been unlucky in that my couple of friends who've recently had babies seem to have magically pinged back into shape (& were slimmer than me to start with to be fair). Right, am going to investigate some kind of exercise plan while bfing dd to sleep in a minute - plus have the confidence to hit the shops when ds is at nursery this week. Any specific boxy/floaty top recommendations Very? I had a quick look in town last week but couldn't see anything suitable - clothes shopping is definitely not my strong point. Thanks all again.

Op, ive just ordered this, dont know whether its your style but it does look amazing on, really flattering, its unusual that i agree with the reviews but in this case i do.

Had 1 a couple of years ago and now ordered a couple more in different colours, can be worn with skinny/slim jeans, converse, flat shoes or knee boots.

VeryLittleGravitasIndeed · 28/09/2014 20:36

I generally search for things like "oversized" or "boxy" and then go for lighter fabrics so it's not heavy-making. Stuff like this and this. For less formal I've found forgiving boxy jersey at H&M and Mango, and various things at COS... And I skim asos for the silhouette I'm after, they sometimes have nice things on sale.

Could have written this myself but I am only 6 weeks post birth.
I'm wearing support / control breastfeeding vests from jojo meme bebe & mothercare. Also post pregnancy control pants (jojo again).
Bit the bullet & bought some harem pants & jeans from next to feel human & to leave the house in! And extra wide pumps while my feet swelling slowly drains away.
Really longing to de-clutter my wardrobe but I've no idea what I will be able to wear again or not yet.
