Perfume suggestions please

I very rarely venture onto the S&B board so be gentle please! My DP's are going abroad & my lovely Mum has said she will get me a bottle of perfume in duty free as my birthday present.

I don't know what to get. I currently have Sunflowers & I hate it. I had one called Poppy (I think) that my sister got me a few years ago that I quite liked.

I'm after a light fresh scent that I can wear all year round, a bit floral, a bit citrusy.

I live in a very rural location so the Boots 20 miles away is the only place I can try testers. However last time I attempted perfume shopping I was so overwhelmed I didn't know where to start.

I would love suggestions of things to try, rather than going in totally confused :)

TIA

Cristalle by Chanel? It's floral, citrusy, and woody. Very elegant - it smells beautiful.

MsGainzly · 27/09/2014 22:10

Lots of green notes in Cristalle too, which give it a fresh, clear kind of air.

Thank you for the suggestion.

Flora by Gucci
Pleasures by Estée lauder
Guerlain do a range of citrussy and floral scents - I have jasminora and bouquet no 2

Apatite1 · 27/09/2014 23:52

I'll throw in cristalle eau verte: I like it better than the original cristalle. I also like the new limited edition guerlain: neroli bianca. Very clean and citrusy.

Chanel Chance eau tendre
DKNY Be Delicious (Golden Delicious is nice)
Ghost Eclipse

Sorry it's taken me so long to return.

You're looking for your signature fragrance. Take your time. Go and sample them, try them on, leave the shop and after half an hour see if you like them on you. (I love the smell of Sunflowers in the bottle, but I hate it on me.) Go back another day to try another one. try them at different times of the day, and in a variety of weather and moods, after eating different foods. Which one makes you feel happy every time you catch its scent on yourself?

I was in exactly the same situation as you about 10 years ago (I threw my Sunflowers bottle out eventually) and I now have a fragrance I like for daytime and 2 others I combine for a more heady evening/winter hit.

(The ones listed below are not the ones I wear.)

A few suggestions:
Happy by Clinique for Women
Mandarin orange, bergamot, pink grapefruit, apple, crisp, light floral. launched fairly recently, so it won't have generations of wearers.

Karl Lagerfeld's Chloe
1975. A complicated and layered creation. Mixture of honeysuckle, orange blossom, ylang-ylang, hyacinth, lilac, coconut, bergamot, aldeydes and juicy peach at the top notes. Then jasmine, rose, narcissus, tuberose and carnation along with the oriss root, add body and the base ends with oakmoss, sandalwood, amber, musk, cedar and benzoin.

Jean Patou, Joy
1929. Rose, jasmine, honeysuckle, ylang ylang and tuberose, anchored by a very light sandalwood base. Lasting, and a good year rounder. Voted scent of the century.

Channel No 5
Is great all year round, it is a citrussy floral Aldehyde fragrance, it has stood the test of time and it smell quite different on different people.

if you like this and want something much cheaper, you could try the old 'Eau de cologne' fragrance.

When I say 'try them on' I mean just try ONE on. Just one per day. Don't try more than one, as they will affect each other and you won't be getting the smell of either, but a combination of them both/all and you'll get overloaded. So rule them out, one at a time. When one is ruled out, don't go back to it.

If you get down our list and you don't like any of them, you could try to get to a shop that sells a very wide range of essential oils, just to smell them so you can tell which ones you like or dislike to help you rule fragrances in or out.
Then Google search 'fragrance groups' and look for the scents you most like, rule out the ones with ingredients you know you dislike.

Bvlgari Jasim Noir is a nice light fragrance.
