Adding volume to really fine hair?

Chopsypie · 27/09/2014 20:50

So I've just a haircut. First time since Christmas 2012!
I'm really happy with it but I know I'm going to struggle to keep the volume that the hairdresser has managed to achieve
My hair is fine, although there is a lot of it.
I have straighteners, but not a massive amount of time.
Would a large barrel brush and blow dry do it? Or should I invest in a babyliss big hair?

Big Hair does the same as a barrel brush but easier if you're cack handed like me.

Also try L'Oreal Fibrology - it really works.

I used a babyliss on my fine hair and it was great to start but then gave me loads of split ends and dried my hair out. I now dry upside down with volumising creme before swishing with a paddle brush to give it movement and smooth it down. I use 12 wonders creme.

Another vote for Fibrology. It's the only volumising shampoo/conditioner I've ever used that actually works.

I have fine hair and bought a Babyliss big hair a few months ago. I wish I'd bought one sooner! I love the volume it gives me hair and it also gives in shine. Treat yourself Smile

I find fibrology really drying. It definitely gives volume but makes my hair, which sounds v similar to OPs, really coarse and straw like.

I find TIGI 'queen for a day' quite good but it's easy to use too much, so use it sparingly.

Chopsypie · 27/09/2014 22:02

Think I could cope if it's drying as my hair is quite greasy, rarely dry!

Thanks for the advice, looks like I know what's on my Christmas list!

I've only tried Fibrology once since I bought it the other day (shampoo, conditioner, and mask) but it did seem to make a real difference. I'm very pleased.

Watching this as it's a problem for me too!

Sebastian's Thickefy Foam is amazing - it is expensive much to my annoyance as I'd love to say it's no better than the cheaper versions but it really is. I won tonnes of their stuff and I gave my friend all the stuff for thick and curly hair and she says she'll never forgive me because it's all she can use now!

Batiste XXL is the only thing that works for me. It poofs my normally lank hair up massively.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 28/09/2014 07:47

Hair dust is fantastic stuff.

I'm using fibrology and then a VO5 mousse, followed by VO5 powder spray stuff which is incredible for giving oomph that stays all day! Plus hairspray to hold the result in place.
My hair is short, so I'm using a small round brush. As well as being fine, it was starting to look a bit thin too, so I finally got rid of my bob and now look as if I've got about twice as much hair as before.
I'd give the straighteners a miss - could make your hair look even limper - just go with whatever nature has given you and then try to enhance it.
I'm 51 and desperately hoping that the handful of grey hairs ive spotted will multiply and give my hair some well-needed boost in terms of volume and ability to style.
