Hollister quality

DD has been badgering me for a Hollister hoodie. She is not long turned 10 and said 'everyone else has them' so not surprising she wants it. Went to the mall today with her for various things and went to Hollister first. After poking around in the dark for one she liked and straining to see the price tag (£49!) she tried it on and was so happy I couldn't refuse. Once we were home I looked more closely and without telling her I think the quality is totally rubbish and have seen better out Matalan for a few quid (not to mention the vile shade of hot pink). There are worse things she could be wearing out and about and she is genuinely happy with it, but it just feels a rip off. Are Hollister just an overhyped fad? Follow the herd if ever I saw it.

My girls tend to wear quite a bit of Hollister, although not the hoodies. I have been impressed by the quality

Eastpoint · 27/09/2014 20:43

I have a couple of the hoodies, they wash & wear well. They do have different weights, maybe you bought a summer one?

guineapig2014 · 27/09/2014 20:47

Yes summer ones are very flimsy, my children have a few and they aren't great quality at all. Winter ones seem to be better but still, hoodies and most of their other clothes are dreadful quality IMO. HTH op xxx

PeachandBlack · 27/09/2014 21:46

I find the t shirts bobble quite quickly but the hoodies have washed well. Quality isn't as good as Superdry imo.
Hollister often have 30% discount offers, so look out on their website as it makes it much more affordable.

ajandjjmum · 27/09/2014 21:50

Isn't Hollister owned by Abercrombie and Fitch, or have I imagined that?!! Their stuff looks pretty tatty when new, but the stuff we have has lasted for years.

sara11272 · 27/09/2014 21:53

Where are you, OP? There's a Hollister outlet shop at Freeport in Braintree (Essex) and I recently got an adult hoodie for £20-something -£26 I think, may be worth a trip if not too far?

There may be other outlet shops closer to you that others know about.

Mine has washed and worn really well so far (though at 41 I suspect I'm a bit old for it Grin).

Honsepricesarecrazy · 27/09/2014 21:54

Quality is excellent, my DS wears it and all washes and wears really well.

superstarheartbreaker · 27/09/2014 21:56

The thing is your dd dosn't care about the quLity. Like most other teens, she's only interested in the label. Try tk max. Every teen wants the " right" label no matter how shite the quality is.

superstarheartbreaker · 27/09/2014 21:57

Quality sorry!

Hulababy · 27/09/2014 21:58

Yes same as A&F and also Gilly Hicks too iirr.

Quality has always been fine here, no different to other high street brands of similar prices.

We often buy in the US as it works out cheaper - same in $ as it is in £s, and the outlet store in Essex has good prices too.

Have to say though that DD has a number of items from Hollister and it all lasts - we never have to throw any of it out after washing, wearing, etc and as its adult sizes she doesn't grow out of it too.

superstarheartbreaker · 27/09/2014 21:59

And yes... All the you guns are wearing it. I'd indulge her in small doses. She will have plenty of time for Matalan once she's my age! [ grin].

superstarheartbreaker · 27/09/2014 21:59

Younguns... Dammit!

mummybear701 · 27/09/2014 22:11

It certainly doesn't seem worth the price I paid for it and is a lot of money for literally a name over your chest. If you find it washes and lasts well thats nice to know.

My ds has a few things from Hollister and I think the quality is excellent and they wash so well.

OnGoldenPond · 27/09/2014 22:32

Got a bit of a downer on Gilly Hicks after agreeing to buy DD a pair of trousers there based on the fact that the label showed them as marked down 40%. When got to till they insisted the trousers should be full price and refused to honour the ticket price.

They clearly expected me to just quietly cough up the full price and were shocked when I told them they could keep them and walked out if the shop.

DD told me that they did the exact same thing to her friend but she felt pressured into keeping them and paid full price Hmm.

Seems like a regular scam , I won't go into the place now.

SirChenjin · 27/09/2014 22:38

Quality is really good....it does mean I am slightly less reticent to venture into half-lit shops staffed by overly perky young things to pay way over the odds for a t shirt for the teens
