She's blinking lazy when it comes to hygiene. She has started to have small break outs. What's easy and cheapish?

Hot water and flannel. Genuinely. Ive used face washes, cleansers, scrubs etc since i was 12/13 and since hearing all the hot cloth cleanse stuff a few months ago i decided to give up the potions and try it and my skin has been brilliant. I honestly wouldnt encourage her to start messing around with her skin and upsetting the natural levels. Hot water and face cloth, and a minimally nasty moisturiser. Cheap and kind.

Does she not wash her face op? That's all she needs. Wash it in the shower.

Perhaps a very gentle face wash to use when she washes the rest of herself? Pure Aloe Vera gel to moisturise if she feels she needs it after washing. Non greasy and it really does work.

Is she needing to remove.make up or something? Don't get caught in the trap of feeling you need to buy 'teen' face cleansing stuff, if the products you select together.are gentle enough she shouldn't need any of it. If she's getting breakouts it's more likely to be hormonal, surely?

fuck me, I just wash my face in the shower with lather from my head after I've applied shampoo, and I'm 34

Onedropoflove · 27/09/2014 01:40

She hardly washes her hair! Gets in the shower every day but doesn't bother to wash it!

Grin I don't have teens yet but I've heard some can be grimmers...i can vividly remember my teens and I was the total opposite. I'd have been well pleased with the idea of my mum helping me choose skincare.

Seriously though, I wouldn't put any of those harsh teen products on my skin, what do you use yourself, could she trial your products first maybe? Then pick something out together, I've used some stuff from a company called Pure Nuff Stuff which is all natural, their cream is a bit oily for young skin but washes are very gentle...they are local to me but sell online via website?

The Avene really gentle cleanser is nice, but it's wipe off and she might not use it. DD2 likes the Biore ice wash and it seems to suit her skin better than anything else she's tried.

McBear · 27/09/2014 09:32

When I was her age (and still now) I used clean and clear face cleaning stuff. It has a purple lid and light blue liquid. Used to use a toner (never saw the point) and a moisturiser too. Used to have perfect skin with very rare breakouts. Now I constantly have spots on my chin n they are vile!

EvilRingahBitch · 27/09/2014 09:36

DD uses La Roche Posay cleanser and Effeclar Duo (known in our house as Die Spot Die) which seems to be keeping things under control.

specialsubject · 27/09/2014 11:48

the spots are unrelated to the soap-dodging. But she does need to be kicked into doing something to stop herself stinking. Daily shower/bath with soap or shower gel, hair wash as needed, anti-perspirant.

if she isn't wearing makeup she doesn't need anything else.

My 12 yr old has just started having a few spots. We had a trip to body shop and she chose a cleanser and moisturiser which is described as "mattifying". V gentle and a nice cucumber smell & I've used it myself ( I get eczema) and liked it. She would never wash her face before (flannel & water) but I think there was something in the getting grown up skin are products she liked. And she's been using it since July now and skin is clear

DS also uses la Roche posey micellar solution (as do I...) and Effaclar. He wouldn't admit to it though...
