what to wear with shorter office dresses in a hot country

Hi all. I've lurked for a while but never posted, however I am now because I'm hoping you can help!

I will shortly be moving to the other side of the world to start a new job. Its a hot, humid climate with high 20s / early 30s for much of the year.

Its a smart office environment but not finance / banking. I have a few new dresses Ive picked up, mainly shifts, and a couple of lightweight cropped jackets (currently I go to work in jeans & a smartish top so I've had to invest in a new working wardrobe).

My problem is that I'm now worried my dresses are too short! I am near enough six foot and a size 14/16 so all my work dresses sit between just below mid thigh and an inch or two above the knee. In the UK I just wear black tights so it isn't so much of an issue, but what can I do when its 34 degrees?! Would leggingss look awful? I fear yes. Or do you think they sound an ok length?

Suggestions for lightweight, decent length work dresses also gladly received. Nothing £££ though, I may soon be an expat but I'm I will be a modestly paid one!

Honestly, it depends where "other side of the World" is? If it's Australia, then from personal experience mid thigh/above knee will be fine for most office type jobs. I found office wear to be much more casual than in UK.

It's Hong Kong...

Pretty sure you'll be OK with bare legs in Hong Kong. But grab some sheer tights just in case - depends how formal/corporate the environment is. Not leggings though!

Bear in mind that hot countries tend to have air con - you may be cold rather than too hot.

I used to put on scarves/ jackets to go into the office and take them off to go outside.

I just came back from working in HK. I was there for just a couple of weeks working in an office. Inside the offices it is very cold, so you will be ok with thin tights if you wish. In my office (not banking), most girls wore dresses to about an inch above the knee

I'm in a Dubai so slightly different but it is always freezing in my office because of the AC. I am 5ft9" so not as tall as you but I tend to buy skirts and dresses from tall ranges to guarantee that they aren't too short. Otherwise I stick to cigarette pants (almost always Zara), a smart top, heels or flats depending on my mood, and I always keep a blazer and a cream pashmina at my desk in case I get cold or need to cover up/smarten up quickly.

Hong Kong is not tropical all year round.

They have mild winters (compared to the UK) so you should be alright with tights up to say 40 - 60 denier in the colder months.

I would take your suits too, if you don't wear them in the summer, you may wear them in winter.

i haven't worked in HK but in Singapore the ladies around the financial district where really short dresses and skirts I'm always surprised/shocked they look like party dresses!

makes me feel all prudish but I would feel super uncomfortable wearing such a short dress for work!!
